    Yamaha Waverunner Battery Drain

SeaDoos have a continuous parasitic drain from the security system. I put a battery switch on all of mine that were garage kept since security was not an issue. That kept the batteries full all of the time. Does a Yamaha FX HO Cruiser have the same issue, or can they be left connected all the...

    Factory Gloss On Wood Accents

Boaters have been doing it literally for centuries. Sure, new products come out all the time, but the old standards are still the old standards. Spar varnish! Look at my deck. Is that good enough?

    Kicker mount on swim deck.

I agree. The swim platform is not strong enough, plus its too low in the water to make it usable. My heavy duty bracket has been on the boat for 31 years now and the 9.9 OB has never come off. She rides well ijn the water and on the highway.

Unique, Very Cool, or Awesome Boat f/s

Converted helms are a common item in woodworking circles. What's even cooler is a complete transom cut off and turned into a couch. Prop, exhaust pipes and all intact. Nothing like a Lyman. Ours is a 1952...

planning to build my own boat

I saw the article as well, and boy did that bring back memories.... I built my first boat when I was 19, financed by a part time job at MickyDees flipin burgers. It was a precut kit for $165 - a 16' OB Runabout. They also sold a kit trailer and that was another $100. A brand new 40 HP Evinrude...

    Stingray boats

Our 190 Stingray is in the middle of her 31st season and we couldn't be happier. We used to upgrade every few years. The fact that we haven't since 1984 says it all. Our son's Stingray is now in her 7th season. We are Lake boaters - Lakes Erie and Ontario. Plus the mighty Niagara River. We have...

    "New To Me Boat" Enigma

Why don't we just say "I bought a new boat" (meaning brand new), or "I bought a second hand boat" (meaning used). This "new to me" sounds like a used car salesman selling a "pre-owned" gem that passed the 66 point checkup! Jus wunderin!

    proud of ur old motor?

The 2 oldies I currently run "daily" are a '53 Evinrude Big Twin and an '84 Evinrude 9.9. The '53 gets the most stares, but of course the boat is also of that vintage and the mahogany gleams like glass in the sun. The one that really gets stares, though, is the 1919 Rowboat Motor, that sounds...

    Stalling Coming Off Plane

Mercruiser 4.3 Carbed I/O, 3 years old. Starts and runs fine except when throttling back to idle speed. Then it stalls. Hard to start again, and when it does need to run at fast idle for a minute until it smoothens out. Then runs OK until slow down again. The dealer winterized and...

    Boat Storage and Parking

Re: Boat Storage and Parking I built a garage with an attached house. When the 5-car garage got full I built another in the back yard and ran a separate driveway to it. The second garage holds 3 boats, but I can fit the boy's 2 jetskis in it for Winter with a little moving around. The garage...

    Being temporarily boat-less!

Re: Being temporarily boat-less! Pikers! You call that a garage? Mine holds 3 cars, a jetski and a boat. We keep the trailer attached to the car so we can go out day after day without worrying about hitching up again. The little garage in the back only holds 3 boats. But for winter...

    Chene Anchor

A recent thread about a small tinny with a too large anchor and chain got me thinking. My slight arthritis has made hauling all that chain an issue as well. I was reading about the Chene Anchors, that reportedly don't require chain. Anybody with experience in that regard?

Any Muskie fishers out there !!!

Re: Any Muskie fishers out there !!! There was quite a bit of controversy over that a few years ago. Mi (or WI, I forget) claimed the world record as well. Then, when records were checked NY lost the bid due to some supposed impropriety. Anywhoot, the StL is still THE place to go. Upper...

    Outboard motor storage rack

Re: Outboard motor storage rack If you have an unfinished space, nail 2 or 3 2x4's horizontal across the studs, spaced out with a 2x2. That will fit 90% of the motors. 1950's vintage Johnsons with front fins on the cowl will need an extra 1 1/2" clearance. If the wall is drywalled, add...

    Unloading???

Re: Unloading??? I use bunk slicks on carpeted bunks, and they work well. Big improvement, but I would guess they might not be 100% satisfactory if the ramp were flat. Need at least a little slope to slide off. Keel rollers and carpeted bunks are really the answer. I can push my tinny...

    Kicker steering to I/O

Re: Kicker steering to I/O Strictly homemade with SS parts. Used an existing bolt on ther top of the outdrive, and had 2 drill 2 holes in the lower cowl on the OB. With it being QD, I don't leave it on unless its in use.

try this again. posting a pict of my favorite tow vehicles. Please post your coolest

Re: try this again. posting a pict of my favorite tow vehicles. Please post your cool The '67 Catalina served us well for over 27 years. That 400 cid V-8 did the trick. I don't have a pic of her with a boat attached. She went thru 3 paint jobs before the rust took over. Sadly we sold her to...

Mercury 25 hp motor removal and replacement

Re: Mercury 25 hp motor removal and replacement Two and a half 2x4's. 2x6's would work too. That's a 25 Yami on it.

    Do you beach your boat?

Re: Do you beach your boat? Yup, most every Sunday for the past 30 seasons, and the past 14 seasons with the boat before her. Sand beaches only. Prior to 1971 we NEVER beached with the wood boat we had at the time. My keel has a few scratches and the gel is dull (not shiny), but not one...

PennZoil Full Synthetic TCW3 - Yeah Right

Just venting.....foiled by the internet again....LOL. Every time I take advice I'm not happy. Wasn't satisfied with my Yami...smokes too much using Yamalube. (Always use OEM stuff). I switched to Evinrude XD50 and was quite pleased with it. Based on the chat here, I bought a gallon of PZ...
