    beaching my boat

Re: beaching my boat The longitudinal scratches will make the boat go faster. Google it! Been beaching mine on sand for 28 seasons now. Only the very bottom of the keel will be scratched, and none on the stem. I can't see it unless I get on a crawler and go under the boat. From the trailer...

    '59 MFG 15' Model ?

Re: '59 MFG 15' Model ? Interesting story here.... Yours might be an MFG, but you might call it a Lyman as well. The MFG company made fiberglas truck fenders. Mr. Morrison, the owner, decided he wanted to expand his client base by making boat hulls. He didn't want to get in the boat...

    Fire Extinguisher Replacement Date???

In a recent thread (I don't remember which one) someone replied that fire extinguishers must be replaced 10 years after the date on the label. Since one of mine is already 28 years old I did a little R&D since I never heard that before. The old regs called for "servicing" by monthly weight...

E-10 Myths - Fact or Fiction

Now I got your attention. This isn't a thread debating the topic - but rather a forum to maybe pass along some usefull info. We all know what to do to avoid phase separation... * keep the tank full (or empty) * use a chemical (no they are snake oil) * etc. So, for once let's...

    Right Hand Drive

Re: Right Hand Drive My boat not only has a port side helm (left handled throttle and all), but it also has the helm in the aft cockpit, along with the battery and fuel tanks. Even with all that, it still doesn't need no stinking whale tail.....LOL.

    1957 Mercury Paint!

Here's one for the tower-of-power guys - the old guys that is....LOL. I've deviated from my Evinrude collection and picked up a Mercury Mark 10. Could be a '57 or a '58 - no good documentation on the serial # cutoff, so I'm stumped. Need some paint - could be "Matador" or "Buckskin Beige"...

    Merc Mark 10

Anybody got a pic of a 1957-58 Mark 10. Just picked up a pink one and can;t figure what year it is.

    Shrink Wrapping?

Back in the old days, "everybody" used canvas for winter covers. The "experts" said you couldn't use a plastic tarp because it would cause mildew. I personally have seen neighbors boats that looked awful when uncovered the next Spring. Canvas "breathes", while plastic doesn't. So, today when...

    Shift Linkage?

A buddy has a Bayliner with a 3.0 Mercruiser. Problems with shifting prompted some adjustment of the shift cable. Adjusted one way and it goes into reverse just fine. The other way forward just fine. But can't have both. Suggestions???

    Evinrude XD-50

No question here. Just a field test report. When I try a product that works exceptionally well, I like to pass along the info. After using Pennzoil 2-stroke OB oil many years ago and having a freeking engine disaster, I vowed to use nothing but Engine Manufacturer's oil in the future. I've...

    2-Stroke Oil

So the pundits here say synthetic is better than mineral oil. I don't want to debate that. What i want to know is if semi-synthetic is better than mineral oil, or worse than synthetic, half way in between or a total waste of money.

How Tall "roughly" is a 15hp evinrude?

Re: How Tall "roughly" is a 15hp evinrude? My "standard" stand was sized the same as the OEM stand that came with my 1955 Merc 10HP. The top of the stand (the "transom") is 30.5" above the floor. If yours is a long shaft, better make it 5" taller.

    Strap Protectors for My Boat

Re: Strap Protectors for My Boat Simple fix. I don't know where you got the $200 figure from. I bought a yard of fleece at the local fabric store and made up a bunch of sleeves custom fit to the length of strap. Used them on the transom tie downs as well as the cover. Took my wife all...

    Vintage boat / outboard

Re: Vintage boat / outboard Its a cute little boat and a classic for sure. But it's not really a "collectable", per se'. With the exception of Riva, foreign boats are not well sought afterin the USA. Chris Crafts, Centurys, Garwoods, etc. command the high prices. Also, market area makes a...

    PT Plywood

I understand the reasoning behind not using PT in an aluminum boat, but can it be used to replace the floor in a fiberglass boat?

General concensus on USA vs. China Tires?

I haven't bought trailer tires in quite a few years. Back in the 1980's I bought 2 sets of China tires "made by Goodyear" and they self destructed in 2 years. Then I switched to genuine Goodyear (says made in USA on the sidewalls) and have run them for years with good luck. My 1999 trailer...

    Fixing Loose Screws in Fiberglass

Obviously, replacing the screw with a larger one would work, but in this case the fitting won't take a larger one without drilling. So, what's an easy fix?

    What's Up with OMC Cobra?

I would never consider buying one...I'm only asking for general interest. I realize they are out of business and parts are a problem, probably qualified mechanics as well. I figured they probably went belly up partly because Merc had a stong foothold on the industry and OMC just couldn't break...

Odd Day on the Water Today...!!!

Calm winds, little boat traffic, blue skies and not a ripple anywhere. It started in the canal no-wake zone. Came across a go-fast with 2 young guys and their bikini clad girlfriends. They were impressing the gals by actually running at idle spped, not creating a wake. Then, we stopped at...

    TeeNee

I realize they went out of business quite some time ago, but the lack of any info on the net is still surprising since they were around so long. Anybody have any idea when they closed their doors and why, or if they were bought out?
