    1970 Johnson 6hp Problems

Think of the twist grip markings as "Fast is this way and slow/stop is that way". Then forget it. As for the shift, something is broken or came apart. Neither is a notoriously common problem, and we could sit here all day and guess. But the truth is only an on-site inspection will locate the...

    1956 Lark Weak Spark?

Not familiar with your spark tester, but I wouldn't put much faith in the diagnosis. How do the coils look? If they aren't all dried-up looking or cracked, you might be good to go. See if the sparks will jump a 5/16" pointed open air gap.

    1947 Johnson HD 25 questions

That magneto used on your motor is very reliable, most working fine today after all these years. As for the points, they are difficult to properly clean in place. I suggest removing them and take them completely apart, degrease everything, and polish each contact individually. Reassemble and...

Please help!! my Evinrude has a problem.

My vote is also exhaust cover gasket. Slight possibility head gasket, but probably not. Definitely not a reed valve If that is salt water, it is an emergency situation. That is, if it isn't already too late.

1960 Johnson 75hp. Backfired; stripped head threads for plug

Of course the backfire may have been caused by a timing issue. You are sure you got the belt timed correctly, right? And flywheel nut properly torqued?

1960 Johnson 75hp. Backfired; stripped head threads for plug

Never heard of a backfire blowing a plug out. The threads must have been damaged before this happened.

where to buy spark wire and good fuel line

Have you tried Iboats? Some auto parts stores will have the copper wire, kind of depends on your area. Also consider parts stores in farming areas (tractors & trucks). And of course outboard and lawn mower shops. I've been getting my bulk fuel hose at Advance Auto Parts.

It's not fussy. Any reputable 80-90 wt outboard gear oil is ok.

    Dead Evinrude?

Always first check the battery cables connections. Don't just look at them and wiggle them. See that they are CLEAN and tight.

I didn't post a picture. I was referring to the one you posted. Yes the way you just wrote is correct, just another way of stating it.

    1967 6 hp CD-24 lync & sync instructions

The picture on the right is pretty clear. Adjust the "speed control" to where the cam follower aligns with the index mark. In this position, the carb throttle lever should be just barely starting to open. Move the cam in or out to make that happen.

    1973 Evinrude Triumph 65 HP

Interesting topic. I didn't know the shock absorbers were a repairable item, replace only.

    Johnson 20CR78C

Was your motor built in Canada? I think CR means Canada Derated. OR....it might be a Commercial motor, Or both. That MIGHT be why it has points. Anyhoo, it is a 1978. Perhaps our Canadian members can shed more light on this.

1973 evinrude 65hp not pumping water

Yes, the shift rod must be disconnected. Bolt is below the bottom carburetor. Use a 7/16" wobble socket and long extension to access it. 1/4" drive preferred' AND, there are more bolts to remove. One just forward of the trim tab, and one concealed above the trim tab (remove the trim tab to...

Be realistic. Remove the rear swivel housing, #21, (8 bolts) and clean out the old grease and corrosion, and reassemble with new marine grease.

    1980 j25rcsa solenoid issue

If it clicks, it should crank. Check voltage at the starter while it is clicked. 12V voltage present, starter not running = bad starter. No or very low voltage present, bat cables, or connections, or battery.
