1994 Force 120 OB trim and tilt problem

You use a compression tester. Remove the spark plugs and screw in the appropriate fitting on the end of the hose. Crank the engine over and look at the reading on the pressure gauge. A new engine should read 150 -160 PSI. A motor with bad or worn out cylinders/rings would be 100 PSI or...

1994 Force 120 OB trim and tilt problem

There is a picture of a 120HP head with the thermal switch located on the head with the wire that goes to a buzzer usually mounted under the dash. Don't know if the rig you're looking at has a buzzer though.

1994 Force 120 OB trim and tilt problem

Might try this as a temporary solution. Maybe a 2 X 4 located similar to pipe in this picture to hold it up. Make sure you secure the 2 X 4 so it doesn't fall out if the motor bounces up.

    1994 Mercury Force 90HP idling/starting problems...

That is the flywheel that is used on the Mercury style Switch Box ignition system from about 1992ish to about 1995ish. It should have six magnets glued underneath to the inner circumference of the flywheel. It has the three 1/4 X 20 bolts for a puller. It requires a 12 pole tachometer, which...

got a new lower unit - need tips

The impeller "kit" that has the impeller, gasket, stainless wear plate and new bolts. There are two versions. You can tell which one you need by the gasket. To be 100% sure, you have to look at your particular set up. Typically the one piece drive shaft lower use this kit. The two piece lower...

    force 125 hesitation

Re: force 125 hesitation The BUHX plugs that are specified to be used on the Prestolite ignition system, which is what fisheymikey has, are a boost gap plug and do not have a resister plug equivalent. If you take an OHM meter and measure the resistance from the spark plug wire connection to...

    force 150 no spark

Re: force 150 no spark The ignition system on this motor uses the battery to supply voltage to run the ignition system. It uses a battery converter (see pic. below) to take the 12 volts DC from the battery, steps it up converts it to AC voltage which is then supplied to the Switch Box. The...

    Overhearing again

Re: Overhearing again At this point it's hard to tell if you have some type of blockage in the power head or the water pump isn't working properly. First thing is to make sure that the thermostat is opening. Heat it up in a pan of hot water. They normally open up at either 130? or 143...

    Force 40Hp will not start

Re: Force 40Hp will not start Sounds like maybe the choke is engaged and flooding the motor. Do you have a fuel enrichener solenoid (choke) or a mechanical butterfly for the choke? Below is a picture of the solenoid. If the primer bulb is getting firm, then the needle valve is working.

    Force 40Hp will not start

Re: Force 40Hp will not start You have the right idea by bending the tab a little. You can test by squeezing the primer bulb. After 4 or 5 squeezes, it should get firm and no gas should leak out of the carburetor. Ideally, the float should look like the diagram below. Float should be pretty...

98 mercury force 120 carb leaking

Re: 98 mercury force 120 carb leaking You have to remove the carburetor to do set the float height. Remove the fuel bowl, turn the carburetor upside down and the float should set just as in the diagram. To adjust the height, you bend the tab that pushes against the needle valve. Don't adjust...

    Milky spark plugs

Re: Milky spark plugs The 75HP motors are slightly different from the other motors. Head bolt torque sequence, note the serial number notation at the bottom of the page. Head bolt torque values, note that they are in inch pounds and that the 75HP has a special notation at the bottom of the...

How to locate cyl#1 trigger under flywheel Force125?

Re: How to locate cyl#1 trigger under flywheel Force125? If this is the type of trigger assy that you have, I have circled #1 trigger coil on the trigger assy in red. Note, this trigger assy is laying upside down. This is a picture of it right side up. Note the position of #1 trigger coil...

88 force 85hp trim drop help.

Re: 88 force 85hp trim drop help. If I were a betting man, I would bet that it was the check valves in the valve body, however, it could be the "O" rings in the Tilt/Trim cylinders too. Here is some info on repairing both....just in case. It could be the "O" rings in the Tilt/Trim cylinders...

89 Force 50HP turns on and stays on only on high idle start

Re: 89 Force 50HP turns on and stays on only on high idle start Have you adjusted the idle speed screw? Take a look at this picture below. This is not the exact same motor as yours but similar. Yellow arrow points to the idle speed adjustment screw. Like Mick says, do your compression...

89 force 50 HP how to adjust new float with new needle

Re: 89 force 50 HP how to adjust new float with new needle Looks like the slot in the flywheel might be OK. It doesn't have nice crisp sharp edges. Looks like it's been roughed up a bit. The flywheel key has taken a hit. It's not sheared off but could probably be replaced. It shouldn't...

Force 125 tilt/trim pump bypass valve

Re: Force 125 tilt/trim pump bypass valve Are you referring to the aluminum caps with the "O" rings on the left and right side of the picture below I have a compressor so I just blow them out with a shot of air. I have been successful in getting them out by taking the valve body and...

Force 125 tilt/trim pump bypass valve

Re: Force 125 tilt/trim pump bypass valve Then I would suspect the pump assy. RRitt's kits are proven to work. I don't know about the pressure, however, below is a picture of the pump assy. taken apart. Yours may not be exactly the same, however, the differences are usually minor. There...

89 force 50 hp hard to start after exhaust gasket change and carb gaskets

Re: 89 force 50 hp hard to start after exhaust gasket change and carb gaskets What exactly do you meant by "Hard time starting"? Does the engine spin but just doesn't fire? Does it back fire? Is the starter spinning the motor fast enough or is it turning slower than normal? Have you checked...
