Need Advice with HDPE Houseboat Construction

A lot of piers here in Tennessee at our marinas are built like this. I think they're mostly using what are called "drums" and they are foam filled. Dunno' what the thickness is, but you can find them on the internet pretty easily. Some of the piers they build support a BUNCH of weight, so that...

    Is this a venture17

Mast boom and rudder won't care what kind of boat they're on ;) I don't recognize it at all. Kinda' looked like a Chrysler, but nothing jumps out. Did it have it's sails with it? Replacing all of that rigging won't be cheap. You may find a mostly ready to go sailboat for similar money.

Do you have a true ballast swing keel, or is it just a centerboard? That setup wouldn't be unusual for a centerboard, and a 16' boat wouldn't necessarily need a true swing keel. The cam cleat kinda' suggests there wouldn't be a winch in that rigging (at least to me).

Need Advice with HDPE Houseboat Construction

I don't have any substantive answers for you aside from asking, are you wanting a houseboat that actually motors along? Or are you building a floating house? Most of what I see built like you're suggesting are piers. I think you could get what you've got setup to move some, but I'm not sure...

    Is this a venture17

Venture was a MacGregor boat, wasn't it? MacGregor's MIC code would be MAC or MGG. If your HIN starts with CYT that's the MIC code for Cobalt boats. Whom I don't believe ever built sailboats.

    Random

Dad had (Mom has) one of those! It was on the half wall to our basement when I was growing up in Detroit, and now it's on a shelf at Mom's. I used to turn the wheel by hand all the time as a kid. Dad and I fired it up a couple of times, but not too often. Looks great gm!

OMC stringer pre 400? help needed

There's a short and long shaft on the Stringer. I can't eyeball 'em. Others can.

OMC stringer pre 400? help needed

Look for the model number on the engine. I think the one on the photo is off the drive. Those are the upper and lower drive shafts you need. Pretty common fail point on the Stringer. @kenny nunez may be able to identify this by eyeballing it.

OMC stringer pre 400? help needed

You can find manuals HERE. Dunno' if they have 'em for download, but you want the OMC shop manual for that drive. It is an electric shift Stringer. And it looks pretty rough. Parts availability will depend on the parts themselsves. You can find some HERE. But some will wind up being a search on...

Best winds for boating in Southern Maine?

Not sure that I'm following the question. And I admittedly don't know those waters. But, I don't think wind direction matters as much to me (even under sail) as wind strength. Wind can (and does) kick up waves, but there are a lot of other factors involved too. How much experience do you have...

Boat mooring in rocky areas (aluminum boat)

Dunno' about a "yacht" but they do it on the shores here in TN too. Rocky edges of these lakes, and yet they do park the houseboats on 'em. I don't anchor on shore very often, but I've found places to nose the Bayliner into and get on shore. Here's a fiberglass boat on Powell:

Stainless Steel? Anyone know what make, model, year this is?

Typically the transom on a boat like that is metal, with wood on both sides. But not usually across the entire stern. That one looks like there's wood all across the back. Can you see the metal on the inside of the transom? You've had it on the water and it doesn't leak, right?

Stainless Steel? Anyone know what make, model, year this is?

@Jdog3295 - do a search for "Elgin Stainless Steel Boat" and see if that gets you in the ball field. Look that one over carefully : not sure what's going on with the transom in the photos. Could just be a coating, but it looks weird to me. Welcome aboard.

    Build a Barge Workshop

Nothing you can see in terms of progress on the 'toon. We've been collecting some parts, grabbing hardware and figuring out painting the fence before we start reassemble. So, not much to see. But I mentioned the "pontoon-pause" to work on FIL's Mercury Comet. We wrapped up the brake rebuilt...

    Newby to boating

That's a good lookin' boat. I've never heard of that one before. Definately not an ocean goer :) That's a loaded question. What are you planning on doing mostly? What type of seas are you typically going to be in? How are you keeping the boat (trailer / mooring)? And what is "affordable" to...

    Newby to boating

Welcome aboard: I'm not familiar with the boat you're referencing. Assuming that it's a typical competition style ski boat, I can't imagine it will perform well in the ocean. Maybe some more protected bays and inlets it might do okay, but not big water. Wrong style boat for that sort of thing.
