Who has starting doing all their own maintenance?

Prior to this boat I had the shop complete all my maintenance. I had the drive pulled every couple of years and still had a coupler failure. I’m thinking about doing all my maintenance on this boat. Maintenance will include oil, drive oil, winterization, and pulling the drive to check...

Bravo 3 delay going into forward, possible oil related?

Long story short, boat was running and shifting fine after service. The gear oil reservoir was low due to air in the drive so I added quicksilver hi performance 90wt gear lube, the green that matched what was in the reservoir, and now I have an occasional delay when shifting into forward...

    Bravo 3 delay into forward?

My bravo 3 started to delay going into forward from neutral today. Reverse is fine, but when it’s shifted into forward on occasion there’s a half second delay before it starts to go. Any ideas?

How much gear lube loss after fluid change?

Had the drive pulled last winter and the gear lube changed. Put 7 hours on the boat over the last 2 days, and the fluid dropped from full to add, basically 4ish ounces. I don’t see a film in the water or anything in the bilge, how much is normal after a drive pull/lube swap?

Bravo 3 with open exhaust bellow, running with drive up?

I have a bravo 3 with the open exhaust bellow, or tube, and was wondering if there’s an issues with idling into shallow water areas when the drive up? I know on the older drives idling with the engine up was a no no since the exhaust bellow would be pinched shut.

    Trim gauge off?

Trim gauge worked at the end of last year. However after having the drive pulled to check the alignment and having it pulled again due to a gear lube leak the gauge reads half way down when the drive is in the up position. When I lower the drive the gauge bottoms out and shows that the drive...

    Mercruiser service soon message?

Just pulled the new to me 2015 350 mag out of storage and installed a new Dist cap and rotor bug. I noticed when I started the boat it had a service soon message, any way to check what it was? The boat starts, idles and runs great on the muffs. Much smoother that when I ran it a couple weeks ago...

Help me understand how to wire a shoreline float switch....

We are planning a number of trips to the lake this year where the boat will be kept in a slip overnight and I would like to make sure that it doesn’t sink for some reason so I’m going to install a shoreline float switch. I currently have a dual battery setup with the 1/2/both switch, but I...

New to me 2015 350 mag, any more maintenance items?

Picked up a 2015 Monterey with a 350mag that had 142 hours back in January. The boat ran great on the sea trial, but I wanted to start fresh. So I have changed the oil, gear oil, sucked out the trim oil and replaced, replaced spark plugs and distributor cap and rotor, and I’ve had the outdrive...

2014 350 mag cat, port manifold/riser considerably hotter?

Just fired off my new to me boat to make sure everything made it through the winter. Ran the boat on the muffs for probably 30 minutes from idle up to 1400 rpms. One thing I noticed, and it might have been this way when I bought the boat is that the port side riser/cat was considerably hotter...

Are surge brakes always a PIA?

I’ve had a number of boats over the years and it always seems that surge brakes need bled otherwise the trailer slams every time you brake or give it gas. I’m sending my trailer in now to have it bled. Is there something I can do, besides swapping to electric brakes, to minimize this?

Why do deep cycle batteries seem to lose charge so quick?

I have two dual purpose batteries in my boat that I remove over the winter. With the batteries sitting in my garage for two weeks, that never gets below 45, I can hook them to my charger and it shows a voltage of 12.5 and 70 percent. Once I hook up the charger they are topped off in 30 minutes...

    Best small polisher/buffer?

Looking for a smaller single hand buffer/polisher for my boat. I have a 10” orbital buffer that I use on my rv and the side of my boat, but I’m looking for something a little easier to use on the top cap and the hull when I’m crawling underneath. Also, what’s your favorite pad for applying...

Took the props off my bravo 3 to have them checked and smoothed out by a prop shop. The prop shaft has old grease with sand embedded on the prop shaft. What is the best way to clean this off? Carb cleaner? Just rags?
