    Knock Sensor

Also, I found this picture of what is reported to be same engine as yours. Based on your description of not being able to clear it out because the drain plug is on the 90 portion of the Tee this picture appears to show the opposite > a straight wire would easily go thru into the block. Others...

    Knock Sensor

I am struggling to understand the concern. Did your device have a ‘port’ (a hole in the middle where it screws in) like a pressure sensor that you are concerned is now plugged up? A knock sensor does not have a port, it just screws in. So, all should be good, there is no harm in removing and...

Safety Lanyard Switch for a 2008 5.0 GXI

I would suspect that yours and this one are not only the same item but made in the same factory somewhere in the east. Given its free returns (at least that is what I see on my account) its no risk. And if not, it’s a $30 risk. Go for it :-)

    4.3 Volvo Penta GL

The odor of gas and the need to hold the choke closed are at opposite ends of the spectrum of an issue (odor > too much gas & need choke > not enough). Best to post any and all info you have on your motor and boat for folks to help. Also, any history like: last season no issues, but did a carb...

Safety Lanyard Switch for a 2008 5.0 GXI

Based on this is seems you are looking for a switch that is unique to your boat model, not a VP 5.0 GXI engine. Suggest posting the make / model of the boat and if available a picture of the switch. And than someone with a similar boat or restricted cavity can assist.

Engine replaced. Will not shut off.

Others can provide a wiring diagram which you can use to start the troubleshooting a possible bad diode in the harness to the pump (as suggested above) because it can back feed the distributor. In other words, doing a ‘diode test’ from the proper terminal on the fuel pump relay to the...

Volvo Penta Drive Belt - Lots of dust and quickly wearing??

CaptnO, Have you been able to determine the root cause? If yes, please post your finding. This can only help others with similar situations. There are a lot of good folks providing help and suggestions and all of us learn from the ultimate solution. If still an issue, let us know that as well...

2002 Volvo 5.0 GXI Low Operating Temperature

The sand and gravel may have done some harm to the Raw Water Pump (RWP) as well. While expect the opposite effect with a RWP not pumping as expected (ie overheating), when you get back into the t-stat recommend you also pull the cover off the RWP and inspect the impeller and casing to see if all...

2000 5.0 GL intermittent slow acceleration

The dark plugs + bogging + acting like a 2 stroke that 'needs to be cleared out' leads one to think too much fuel. This is why Lou is asking about the electric choke. This is easy to check > simply start up at the dock with the spark arrestor off and look over time. Been awhile since I have...

2000 5.0 GL intermittent slow acceleration

Was it running last season with no issues? If yes, what, if anything was done other then your listed items? When you recently replaced the plugs what did they look like? When it ‘clears out’ does it run well with no issues for the rest of the day? The more info provided the better. Also, about...

Time for Riser & Manifold > VP or Barr?

Concluding this post: got the boat in the water and all was good. Ran about 5 degrees cooler per the dash gauge. No leaks, exhaust or otherwise. Very happy with the results and the Barr product!

    New to Volvo family

MUC, Thank you! Can your post be added to Don’s “Must have info” sticky? Also I included a pic of the blue ok to run cap. I have been buying up all the rubber hoses for my boat and will be replacing 100% of them next year, so I had this new cap in my collection.

    New to Volvo family

Go back to post number 40 where MUC was highlighting “Volvo's can have 2 different flush systems. one of them can only be used with the engine off!” This was new to me. So I looked in the manual I have for my 5.0GXi-E and it states for the 5.0GXi-A/B, 5.7Gi-A/B and 5.7GXi-B/C (so not mine)...

    Bogging in relation to distributor

The theme here is that a weak spark is suspected. Cap/rotor get corroded and bogging down occurs. Replace and all good for a while. Elsewhere in this string is the suggestion that that other items. like the coil, can be the culprit of a weak spark > if the coil is weak to start with a little...

    Impeller rotation question

Flashback, it was only a pic I found on the internet. And agree that is a possibility and probably the case that happens most of the time given if the installer used a good lube and there were no ‘hangnails’ that would catch the impeller with a leading vs trailing edge so to speak. But why risk...
