    Popped through the intake.

So I'll add that I did some more digging... I found this thread here: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/mercruiser-5-7l-stumbles-backfires-after-40-mins.696461/ It would appear to be a very similar issue. I haven't tried pushing the issue to test further but something else to look at I suppose.

    Popped through the intake.

Fair enough. On the trailer you could hear what sounded like only a slight miss pretty consistent. I'll add, the first start this spring it ran like crap. I forgot all about it. Surging sounded like it was down a few holes. Then like a light switch it cleared up.

Still smoother than the 3.0l it replaced but not right may be the better term. Yeah I'll pull everything apart when I get a minute. Plugs etc. The oil seems to be from the breather. Dripping down the plastic tube onto the cover more than the bolts. And yes... like 20 in-lb on those... little...

    I have a leak.

Same nut size just steel vs stainless.

    I have a leak.

I actually replaced the Y-pipe oring while the engine was out as a sanity check. A thought... when I reinstalled the transom assembly some of the hardware got mixed up. The studs ended up with the stainless nuts from the drive instead of the steel ones... I noticed that with the engine out...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

The only dislike I have for backup cameras is that some vehicles have such horrible outward visibility that I feel they designed it forcing your hand to use it. I can say my 03 is much easier than my 19 but I hardly use it on the 19 anyway as the depth perception and field of view on it is all...

    I have a leak.

The angle of the test ramp I was able to bury the swim platform which, is above water normally by a couple inches. I don't get it. Unless the housing is cracked or something.

    I have a leak.

When I did the rebuild I measured it to the mercruiser specs and it was within them... however that doesn't mean the assembly itself isn't flat and I didn't check that.... I'm going to get an inspection camera down there next outing as this is getting ridiculous.

Had a heck of a day

If it makes you feel better my boat still leaks and now a breakup that was resolved from a couple years ago is back. I'm ready with lighter fluid and a match.

    Popped through the intake.

And we're back.... I am unsure if I should just continue this thread or start a new one as I kind of feel like I am starting from square one again. So went out today for the first shake down after trying to find the water leak... To my joy the bilge remained dry... though there was a drip or two...

    I have a leak.

No leak during float test. Engine back in and it's back I think... saw a drip down the transom. On top of some other unpleasant happenings on the shakedown... Not a happy guy.

    Thats just normal statistics.

Any day on the water is better than work... or in my case installing the engine back in again.

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

Traction control in a 1 of 1 million dollar car with tuning and R&D in it for the sake of going as fast as possible is very different than what us norms get. I find it very intrusive and outside of a few special vehicles, most of the time when you disable it it comes back on above a certain...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I'll add a like... auto tinting mirrors. My 19 only does the rear view but the 03 does the rear view and side mirrors. It's a dumb feature but does correct for the ahole in the jeep deciding that his light bars and pods are DOT legal for road use on high.... obviously I also don't mind the...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I think what may have saved it was it happened in the driveway and I immediately yelled at mom to kill it. I can confirm no cam replacement either time. I was ready to just go in and do it myself... and delete it... but it was -25f at the time and it was easier to let them deal with it. Again...

Still can have lifter issues though. Seen a few collapse which is concerning. All my other gm vehicles have been 6.0l engines and are running like a Swiss watch still. The L8T already has a tick. Luckily it is a company vehicle.

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

My dealer did a warranty job for a collapsed lifter on a 5.3 and replaced exactly 1 lifter and sealed it back up and called it good. I can only imagine their surprise when it came back in a couple weeks later for more failed lifters...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

I run oil analysis along side the GM OLM (which has been in use since the late 80s) and its extremely conservative. My 04 used to run 14k miles on it and that things out there with nearly 400k miles on it. That is one of the few things I do actually set and forget. My current truck maxes out...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

Only time I used adaptive cruise was when I learned it was practically useless with all the asshats on the parkway. With everyone weaving in and out of traffic it'll slow you down to 40 just to try and maintain whatever following distance you set. In the case of that car it was: almost can't see...
