    Prop problem or something else????

Using my recently purchased nearly new 9.9 4-stroke Mercury kicker that is mounted on the port side, next to my 100hp Mercury, I cannot turn into the wind that is coming from starboard to port when the wind is above 8mph. I troll on Lake Michigan at 2.5mph (which is at about 500-700 rpm), and...

    preserve mooring cover

My mooring cover works great and fits well. It has some age. How to preserve it? New custom mooring cover is north of $500. My boat sits in the hoist in northern Michigan all summer. What can I brush or spray onto the fabric to preserve it? The fabric seems to be a cotton-poly mix, not...

    2 motors, 1 tank

I want my 4-stroke kicker to pull gas from the 30 gallon tank for the 4-stroke big motor. What is the simplest plumbing approach to do that? I want to keep life simple.

    used VHF marine radio parts

I asked this in another iBoats Forum, but received no answers. Where can I find used VHF radio parts? My Uniden Solara works great. I just need the blue rubber gasket that seals the clamshell mic and also serves as a trx button. Where oh where are VHF radio parts sold? Uniden was...

    uniden solara microphone

I have a Uniden Solara VHF radio that works great. The only problem is the microphone gasket. Where can I get parts for a Uniden radio? Uniden was no help. They said to send them the entire radio and they'll rebuild it for $85. I can buy a new radio for $120. The microphone is build like a...

Mercury or Yamaha or Honda 9hp kicker?

OK. Thanks to some iBoats responses about 2-stroke vs 4-stroke kickers. I am narrowing my replacement kicker search (mounts on stern, no bracket) with the focus on weight, same fuel as main which is 2-stroke with oil resevoir and internal pump, and long shaft. Since I live in a somewhat...

    kicker: 2 or 4 stoke?

First, is it me or is the iBoats.com site slowing way down? It seems to take forever to navigate through the Forum. Now, to my question. I plan to replace my too small 2-stroke kicker with a newer, used 9hp model on my 19.5' very deep V GLS. To maintain 2.5+ trolling speed in Lake Michigan...

    standard or long shaft?

I have an Evinrude 4hp Deluxe that I've used for a trolling motor, Model E4RDHCUD772021, SN: B1382643021888. I'm looking to replace it with a larger motor, and think I need a standard length shaft, not a long shaft. How do I tell if my current motor is standard or long shaft?

Boat position on trailer not right

This is going to be hard to explain, but I'll try. I have a 19' aluminum boat weighing a little less than 2,000lb with motor, kicker, 25gallons of gas, and gear. I need to know how to adjust my rollers so the bow comes into the rubber V, and the bow eye comes under the roller. My tongue...

    Fuel Gauge diagnosis - help

My '89 Sea Nymph 195 has an in-dash fuel gauge for the 20 gallon tank under the floor. It worked, but now it doesn't. The needle stays on full. I jumped the wires at the tank (center post on gauge sending unit and ground on the tank) and the needle jumped to empty. I checked all the...

    100hp serial number - help

My 100hp Mercury has a serial number stamped on a small silver disk. It is "B310678". It shows on Crowleymarine.com for parts and diagrams, but no further information. Can anyone help me identify the year it was made? what the model is? any particulars that would be helpful? where to get an...

    Glove box lock unit

My Sea Nymph GLS has a locking storage box or glove box on the passenger side of the helm. I have no key to fit it. Does anyone know where I can buy a lock insert with a push button to open the box door? Or maybe the best thing is to take out the current lock unit and take it to a locksmith...

need help installing a steering rod

Need some creativity. I want to connect a steering rod between my 100hp Merc and my trolling kicker motor, but the trolling motor has no external hardware to attach a steering rod. It is a 4hp Evinrude. Any creative ideas on how to connect the 2 motors? I really need a fix for this, and I...

    rate that weights sink

I troll for salmon and trout in Lake Michigan. Sometimes, instead of downriggers or lead core or dipsy divers, I like to "long line" whereby I have a spoon 200' behind the boat. I add torpedo shaped weights to take the spoon down. Otherwise, the spoon skips on the surface. The problem is I...

How does a LIVE WELL work?

My "new" 19' Sea Nymph Great Lakes Special has a live well up front with pump at the stern. How does this all work? I don't think I have any use for a live well, but won't know until I understand how it works and what it does. Any help will be appreciated. The live well is a metal box under...

Replace 1990 Mercury 100hp power trim switch - NEED HELP

Somehow, I really banged the power trim switch hard and maybe broke it. It is located on top of the shift/throttle lever. I can remove the Quicksilver face plate and hot wire the power trim and confirm it works, but I cannot get to the switch on top of the lever. How do I replace the switch?

    oil level + temp warning module 1990 Merc 100 4cyl 2X2

I suspect my oil level+temp module is bad. I've read many threads, and false alarms seem to be common. The module sits on the starboard side (right side looking back to front of engine) of my 4 cyl 2X2 oil injected Mercury. It is black, and about 1" x 2". It intermittently beeps even though...

    idea for bilge plug alternative

My boat sits on a hoist out of the water when not in use. The back of the boat sits over 8' of water. I cannot reach the bilge plug to remove it to drain the boat after a heavy rain. On my old boat, I could remove the plug at all times in the hoist so heavy rains would just run out, then...
