    IMHO I would remove it, I don't think it would affect the curing but would inhibit its adhesion. Some foam assists with structural integrity but I can't say for sure with your application. I'm sure someone else will be able to add more definitive information.

    Using poly resin without glass

    I used 2 coats of resin on bare wood because one coat will soak in quite a bit, I wiped generously with acetone before the first coat and in between the 2.

    New to me used 2.3l

    What I found out in regards to the higher idle that the counter weights for the mechanical advance were worn out, I bought a used distributor and that problem was fixed. Could it be the cause of your other problem I can't say because I didn't experience that one.
