    What engine in new boat

VP would have had put a 2bbl 500CFM(370cfm when flow rated like a 4bbl)Holley, which was Perfectly sized for a 5 liter spinning 5000. However on a 5.7 it was a bit too small. They did put a very nice 4bbl Intake under it though. There is a noticeable difference in Torque between a 5 liter and a...

    New Motor same power issue

New Block, same ol Ignition, same ol Carb. Perhaps you are getting Crossfire, make sure the Plug Wires aren't all nicely tied together, check the Cap for Carbon Tracks inside. Electricity want's to complete the Circuit, and doesn't care what path it needs/uses

    Help prop an old boat?

A 17" or 19" would be a good place to start. WOT range for that Engine is 4800-5300 BTW your engine, well the Cowl Wrap, is a 74. A 72 would have Kiekhaefer Mercury on the Faceplate. Yours has Mercury Marine

    Rope caught in Prop!

Engine stalled at idle is what happened to it. If it was going 2000rpm and came to an instant stop, yes then I would be worried. Does your Prop have a Rubber Hub, or one of the Shattering Style of replaceable hubs? You can always pull the Prop, and you will find no Damage, but it gives you a...

Runs Well, Can’t Reach Top Speed??

No 2 Stroke Outboard I have ever seen the past 60+yrs has ever had an Idle Speed Adjustment done at the Carb.

Runs Well, Can’t Reach Top Speed??

What I am saying, is that on every 2 stroke I have ever seen, the Carb(s) are fully closed at Idle, and the Idle Speed is controlled strictly by the Spark Advance/Retardation. A change in Prop Pitch will load an Engine differently, and will affect where the Timing is, to attain the correct in...

Runs Well, Can’t Reach Top Speed??

On pretty much every 2 Stroke I have ever seen, there is no Idle Timing spec, as the timing is retarded to determine the Idle Speed, and that will vary depending on the Load on the engine(prop Pitch). The Carb(s) remain fully closed, and are not touched to set Idle Speed.

    What type fuel hose?

If a snowmobile has a leaky Fuel Line, no big deal, it drains on the Ground. Not so when that occurs in Boat.

There is no Idle Timing Spec

Runs Well, Can’t Reach Top Speed??

What exactly did you "adjust", and Why? Did you do a Link and Sync, to assure that the Carb is properly Synced to the Timing?
