Basically anywhere there is a sharp corner should be rounded. Fiberglass wants to be straight. If you could get an individual strand from some csm, bend it in an arch, it will spring back straight. Around a rounded corner, the resin will hold it down. If you round the corners with a grinder, it...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

Nice. Don't worry about the bottom, just scuff it up and glass over. It's a bit late now, but you should have cut the bottom out so the drain hole won't have any wood around it. My fault, I forgot until I saw it in. You could go ahead and cut it out with a hole saw, maybe router the wood out a...

Looking good. Some comments... 1. It looks like you have it marked for this, but I thought I would say it anyway. You should round these corners a bit. Fiberglass hates corners and you'll regret it when you're glassing. Same with the edges of the wood. Anywhere that glass will need to wrap...

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

What you have would probably be fine. We use the 40 grit roloc discs in our grinders, or the 5 inch discs. We rarely have to bust out the big grinders like that.

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

I always forget what the numbers correlate too. At work, 1708 is "byply", and the woven cloth is roving. Just what I learned with. So what I meant was 2 layers of csm and one roving. Yeah, fiberglass hates corners. Round them well, and finish by hand with some 80 grit. It will get any left over...

    Boats from work.

Step two done. 3 more layers of csm and one roving. Roving is in 3 pieces running vertically. Next will be another 2 mat and roving with the roving going horizontal. That one is gonna suck. Not for a little while though, something came up. That something is.....VACATION TIME! 😃 A week off...

    1995 Crownline 202BR Restore

I assume this is all about getting the transom in, so here is what I recommend. 1. Attach transom to hull with thickened resin. 1a. Spread thickened resin across the back of the transom at least 1/2 inch thick, you can avoid the I/O cutout. 1b. Lag or clamp transom in place and leave...

    Boats from work.

Step one done. About five layers of csm to fill in the cut out. Tomorrow will be tieing it into the rest of the structure. Done with me laying inside glassing and the supervisor outside wetting and handing me the glass.

    Tritoon restoration

New toons should come with everything already on them. All of the brackets should line up, but make sure to get every nut and bolt started before tightening any. Usually, the front brackets will not be pre-drilled. Be careful not to pinch/pull wiring when moving stuff.

82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

Yeah, home. Was making a joke about not getting that free beer yet. Ok, last idea because it doesn't even make sense to do it this way. I see those two sections on the bench are both stripped, like you were going to use them as extensions in the middle of the wiring. If so, leaving them out...

Looks like the black has something else over it. Is that transparent shrink tube? If so, it was missed on the red, but it shouldn't be too big of a deal with the heat shrink connectors.

Put the splices next to each other, creating an extra thick spot in the wiring? Could be a problem with the smaller tube ID.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

You just have to grind the rest out. It's easier when they're actually rotten. You can usually just whack a pry bar under the rest and it pops out.
