1976 Mercury 1150 Lower Unit Compatibility

You should consider post 1979 Cases as they have improved Hydrodynamics. Since the mid 70s, all LUs for the I6 use a 2:1 gear ratio(1972 1150 used a 25:14. maybe a typo. Then again, the 73 brochure mentions the 1150 getting a new Gear Ratio.). As mentioned above, the LU from the 66.6 4 cylinders...

Are you certain all the Fasteners are removed? If you are trying to drop the Lower Unit, don't forget about the Bolt under the Trim Tab.

Can i put a different brand outboard on my boat

In some areas, there are no Limitations. I know I never had any problem buying a boat, or having the Dealer repower it with Engines that were often close to 50% higher than the Rating. I also never had any Issues with Insurance Underwriters, and I told them, in Writing, it had more engine than...

We don't hate it, but we do recognize it for the Comedy that it is.

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

Witnessed on way to Costco. Going about 125km/hr, the driver was Oblivious to what was happening behind him, even though I could hear a hell of a racket as he passed. I pulled alongside and pointed to the back of the car and he pulled over.

Anyone heard of Mystic gear oil?

If you have an Electric Shift, or Hydro-Electric Shift gearcase, the stuff is likely not Compatible usable in it

Merc 4 stroke worn out with low hours

Yes, they do last forever. We had the 5 1/2 the year before they bumped it to 6 hp. That poor little engine went to Hell and back. It was submerged a few times, once at WOT, it was overheated enough that the Paint on the Head turned dark, and it was run with no oil in the Gearcase for a couple...

    Classic 1959 Skagit Sportster

Welcome to iboats You will never get back the money spent on a Restoration. That said, is the Transom Solid? Remove the Transom Breaker, lower the engine, then stand on the AV Plate and see if there is any flexing of the Transom. If it is Solid, and the Hull is intact, you could use a Gelcoat...

Buying a US boat and bringing back to Canada

There will also likely be Duty, GST, and don't forget about the Exchange Rate. Factor in the Cost of getting here, whether you make a trip. of have it freighted. One last little gem, if you have a Problem, you might have to go back to the US to get Warranty. A Distributor in Canada, even if the...

    Mercury 40hp Motor mounts

I had those bolts loosen on my 84 115. I suspect an out of balance Stainless Prop caused enough Vibration to loosen them. It cost me a couple of Buckets of KFC, and a couple of cases of Barley Sandwiches, to get the Service Manager at my Dealer to do the repair, after hours one evening. Also...

    New prop

Welcome to iboats "Same size" doesn't mean Identical, so there is no reason to expect Identical results compared to the original Prop. You said "extra cup version". What brand and model is the replacement Prop? Cupping can add a bit of pitch, and/or rake, depending on where the cup is on the...
