thread wear on prop shaft what is causing it?

I believe the thread is deeper at the beginning and gets more shallow as it gets closer to the straight spline area. That is what I am seeing in your pic. Threading tools have a taper on the lead in, so when it threads that shaft, the leading edge with the taper is where the thread runs out.

Replacement Gas Cap - help needed

Over the years I have saw many with channel lock pliers trying to get their plastic caps loose. Only to break off the tabs so there was nothing left to grab. Replacement Gas Cap - help needed

Being plastic the gas will dry the plastic out making the cap hard to thread, this makes it harder to turn, people add more force and they break !!! Keep the threads coated with a little silicone grease to keep the plastic from sticking and becomming tight.

    Alignment Tool

Calipers are not what we call a precision neasuring tool in my trade. Much better than a yard stick of course. Time to get a " factory" service manual for your specific engine. Most ofvthe xarbs I have rebuilt have a number on the carb, that along with engine serial number should get you the right kit. There will be a sync adjustment when you put them back on, this is where your service manual will...

    Clanking/rattling sound after prop change

Must be gettin really old as this does not make much sense to this old brain...When you add an extra blade with the same pitch, you should be moving more water which puts more strain on an engine. Just for curiosity, I have been looking at getting a spare prop for my boat. Thinking a change in...
