    Quit My Job . . .

It was a paycheck, nothing else. I would leave my Company phone and Laptop, locked up, and wouldn't think about the Place till the next Day. I changed my Home Phone Number and never updated the Company Records, as I didn't like be disturbed on my time

    Caprice Shudder at Hwy Speed

Speaking of Driveshafts. My 86 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham had a Driveshaft that was a Tube within another Tube, with what looks similar to a rubber Prop Hub between them. One day, it developed an odd vibration. I had the wheel balance checked, U joints were fine, Driveline Angles looked okay. I...

I like/love the Older Inline Mercs, but I also know, just about everyone of them suffers from decrepit Wiring(bad Insulation and copper dust inside), and issues with the Water Jacket gaskets inside the Exhaust Chamber on the Block. Also Parts are getting Scarce, and finding mechanics/shops that...

    1976 Mercury 850 value

Probably a lot less than it is worth to you. It is just about 47 yrs old. And motors that age need TLC and often a lot of parts replaced just to keep running, and a lot of those parts are NLA, though some can be found as NOS at dealers, and on ebay. If you keep it, before you run it again...

    Carburetor tuning on muffs

All the carbs are fed the same Fuel mix that the VRO supplies, so the only way a Cylinder by itself, would be affected, would be an Leaky Pulse/Vacuum Line between the Pump and the Crankcase.

    Quit My Job . . .

I managed to get two jackass Managers fired, and went on to work there another 15 yrs, till I retired, with Corporate Pension. I just have pretty much no Respect for the Legal Pimps

    Carburetor tuning on muffs

Mix the premix at 16:1, just to insure it gets enough oil to spin a bit after you quit spraying, in case the carb is delivering no fuel to that cylinder.

While a possibility, Reed failure is very rare. Spray some premix into the middle carb and note how the engine responds

Lifting boat off trailer to repair bunk

While RTV has no structural Strength, moisture actually accelerates the Curing Process. Epoxy might be a better material to use to fill in the old holes, and can even be used to secure the Lag Screws if you want to use the same holes

    Merc 4.3

Even with an evened out firing order, a V6 has some serious Imbalances, I am surprised they don't shake the layers of Fiberglass in a hull apart.

1400 RPM loss from 13 to 15 pitch!!!

No it is not, unless one of them is incorrectly labeled. Okay, you have the 2.33:1 gear case, which, I believe, takes larger Diameter Hub props than the Standard case. Check you props, do they all have the same Diameter Hubs?

    Quit My Job . . .

Of the 35 yrs I was with the Company, less than 12 were with good Managers. The rest were the stupidest Illegitimates you could ever meet. They were certainly Legends in their own minds. A couple of them took a Run at me, but within a Year, each time, I had managed to get them Fired. In one case...

    Spun Prop

Back to the beginning What are the Compression Numbers? Does it have a Spark that can jump a 7/16" gap consistently, on both Cylinders? Is the Fuel System in good condition, no air or fuel leaks, Clean Filter/Screen, on motor and on pickup tube in the tank. Is the carb opening fully when the...

    Carburetor tuning on muffs

Perhaps the screw was backed out so far, that it didn't make any real difference to the Mixture, or there was some gunk/gum/varnish in the passages that were restricting the flow and the needle wasn't making any change in the range you turned it. Another possibility is that the Middle carb...

    Quit My Job . . .

Management, pretty much the Least Productive bunch of People in a Company. My Motto, which I did write on many White Boards, with regular Felt Pen(much harder to remove in a Hurry) "Keep Smiling, the Bosses are IDIOTS!" Respect is earned, 99% of Management deserves None
