    CROSSFLOW PERFORMANCE ?'s

Totally unregulated Charging System, Voltage will climb as the Rpms increase. Only use Wet Cell Batteries that have the provision to check the Electrolyte Level and add Water as needed. Sealed Batteries, and AGM(like Optima) are NOT to be used.

Converting to carburetor from mpi 350 mag

The Q-jet is probably the most sophisticated Carb ever designed. It certainly could make Power, and also could deliver good Economy and Low Emissions. It was produced in 2 sizes, 750 CFM and some made for certain Buick 455's were 800 CFM, the difference being the size of the Primary Venturi

Converting to carburetor from mpi 350 mag

A 600 is overkill for a 5.7 going 5000 rpm, as it is using less than 430 CFM. When I have the 2bbl 500cfm Holley on my 5.7, the engine has about 4.5-5 inches of Manifold Vacuum at WOT(4800 rpm), which indicated that the 2bbl(which when tested like a 4bbl, flows about 375 CFM) was a bit...

Converting to carburetor from mpi 350 mag

You should always have the engine up to Operating Temp before "Taking Off", One of the best ways to have an engine wear out soon, is to slam the throttles on a cold/warming up engine.

Suggestions about boat not getting on plane and prop protection

When I was teenager, could get a 10ft car topper to plane with a 5 1/2, but certainly couldn't plane the 12ft car topper A non-planing hull, aka Displacement Hull, takes very little power to push up to its' critical speed, once there, a 10 fold power increase isn't going to do much, except...

Need advice for getting boat on plane

Welcome to iboats I am curious as to what Rpms you are getting at WOT. My thoughts... That forth blade is loading the engine up too much at low rpm, hence the poor Hole Shot. Things that are easy to check: As already mentioned, Compression Are all Cylinders getting a Spark that can jump a...

I'm just about ready to sink it.

Unless there is some other itty bitty detail that you haven't mentioned... it sounds like like the Linkage between the Connector, and the Shift Shaft got reassembled wrong.

    Merc 4.3

1.62:1 will work with a 5 liter, but something in the 1.5:1range is better for a 5.7, unless you are in the 23 ft range. At that length, a Big Block should be under consideration

    Merc 4.3

I am not a fan of the 4.3 as it is a small engine, and a V6 to boot. I find it to be low on Torque, and an Albatross on boats over 16 ft It's main Achilles' Heel is that the Intake manifold, needs to be drained when Winterizing. This is a Procedure that is quite often missed the first time...
