    Best adhesive remover?

I never found anything that loosened or dissolved the old carpet glue. I tried all kinds of solvents, including the 3M Adhesive Remover (what I refer to as 'the nuclear option' since it works better than anything), without success. I ended using a grinder and abrasive disk. I went thru a bunch...

This is the key for me, too. Standard is much easier if you have railings to deal with.

Winterizing engine & drive removed from boat

Normally, you'd want to detach the large curved hose that goes to the water circulating pump on the front of the engine. It can hold up to a quart of water.

Lag Bolt Hole Striped (Engine Mount To Hull)

Yeah, fill the 1/4" with dowel, or Marine-tex or PC-11 epoxy and use it for a while. You should find out fairly soon if it's going to hold up. If not, then you can plan your winter project.

    Forum update

I remember the switch to the last version of VB and what a mess that was, and this change has gone so much better. I'm really impressed how functional everything is, especially given that the board moved to a different platform. It's been pretty impressive to see. I'm happy to learn new ways to...

    Forum update

Thanks, aspeck. I normally don't use the new topics feature, as I don't follow all the forums, just a handful, but I may have to start. I do hope the future includes some way to look at a topics in a forum and know which ones I'm caught up on. Thanks again!

Gear Oil, change or OK to check?

The only thing I'd be concerned about with those few hours would be if water got into the gear lube. Pulling the lower drain valve and letting some dribble out should tell you if there are any water intrusion problems. If you don't see water or milky-colored lube coming out, you're probably OK...

    Forum update

Well, I'm still loving the new forum look and functionality and I say a big THANK YOU to all the mods and developers and admins that have been working to make the changes. iBoats doing away with the VB software is the best thing to happen so far in 2020! I appreciate the tip for identifying...

Lag Bolt Hole Striped (Engine Mount To Hull)

As a 2005 boat, I'm wondering if your stringers/mounts are fiberglass filled with foam, with a block of wood glued/epoxied under the upper surface of mount, to give the lag screws something to bite into. If that is the case, the mount could be more or less hollow under the block of wood. (I...

Need help locating replacement circulating pump hose

Hi all, this year when I winterize, I want to replace the standard circulating pump hose with one that has a drain valve. The engine is a 350 Mag with raw water cooling (serial number in my signature below). I have seen pictures of this (see below) but I have checked a number of sites and I...

Replace 4.3L with 5.7L in Rinker Captiva 192

Hi all, a friend of mine has a 2006 Rinker Captiva 192 Alpha One Gen 2 that he bought nearly new, although when he purchased it, the original engine had been replaced with a 1998 4.3L. (I don't know what happened to the original, but I suspect it was ruined and replaced with an older motor so...

    Gelcoat repair

Well, today I was launching into the Mississippi River and chipped the gelcoat below the waterline. I clipped (at very slow speed) a metal retaining wall that borders the boat ramp. Because the river is up, the top of the wall was about 6” below the surface and as I was backing of the trailer...

    sourcing boat windshield

Hi all, A buddy of mine has a '06 Rinker Captiva 192 that took some damage during a windstorm. A shelter fell and smashed the center walk-thru window to the bow seats, as well as a curved section on the starboard side (pics below). He was quoted the usual ridiculous price to replace it (like...

iBoats forum keeps wanting me to update my browser (even though it is current)

Just now, after logging into the forums, instead of being directed to the main forum page, I was presented with a splash screen asking me to update Firefox by clicking a button. This has happened once or twice before (on a different machine), and both times I just ignored it and re-clicked on my...

Apparently, I'm not much of an auto mechanic...

I've been servicing my wife's '13 Toyota Sienna minivan (2wd, about 115,000 miles), and I have a front end rattle that has persisted despite my having serviced a bunch of stuff that needed to be replaced. I've posted my question on a vehicle-specific forum, but they don't always have a ton of...

    Bye bye, Hippo?

I've been pleasantly surprised to notice that ridiculous and nonsensical hippo logo disappearing from the web pages and the commercial site. Is it gone for good? That was one change I never understood. (Not to mention it was hard to tell what the logo even was supposed to represent.) If, in...
