    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

I try to find a source near the carb, or on the base of the carb, preferably one that can read both Plenums. On my Boat's Holleys(factory 500cfm 2bbl, and the 4175 650cfm SB I stuck on), I used the choke pulloff vacuum hose, once the engine was warm, and the choke was fully open, it wasn't...

Spark plugs for older Merc (80s)?

Starting in the mid 60s, thru the 80s a majority of engines used Surface Gap Plugs. They were touted as being less prone to causing Preignition than Conventional Plugs as they were a very Cold Plug. And though that could cause Fouling, it was advertised that the very High Voltage of the then...

    Hydro Shield Skeg Foil

Being that the Skeg is pretty thin where that Monstrosity attaches, I can't see it remaining attached for long. At least there will be an increase in speed when it does break off

    Anyone Seen these?

Unlikely it will go below 2G. Plus it really is a Disposable Prop. It would be more difficult to repair it, than to mill a new one

What brand of 2 stroke oil do you use for your Johnson Evinrude 2 stroke

Premixing as in a tank, as the oil was not formulated to mix or stay mixed with gas. In an Oil Mixing system on an Engine, it would not be much of a concern

What brand of 2 stroke oil do you use for your Johnson Evinrude 2 stroke

Merc OptiMax Oil and BRP XD100 are not even TCW-3 rated. However they far Exceed that 30 yr old Spec, which fell short of what DI Engines required of Oils

What brand of 2 stroke oil do you use for your Johnson Evinrude 2 stroke

Early bottles of XD100 had a Warning on the label, not use it as a Premix. More recent bottles no longer have that warning.

Spark plugs for older Merc (80s)?

Interesting, the Spark Plugs are shown to be L76V, but in Canada QL78V. All are Surface Gap Plugs.

Spark plugs for older Merc (80s)?

The Part# given ThomW in Post #3 is correct As for the Plug Wires, I never grounded them, and I never got a shock while checking compression. I have gotten plenty of shocks while touching the Wires, attached to the plugs, when the engine was running

Spark plugs for older Merc (80s)?

Some people prefer warm engines, but if the engine won't start and run, it is not going to get warm. It rarely makes much difference, You keep cranking the engine, until the Gauge is at its highest reading. On multi cylinder Engines, there shouldn't be more than a 15% difference between the...

Merc Outboard - 2 Year Old Engine Failure, 5 Year Extended Warranty Denied

A leaky head gasket, can put water on to the Spark Plug, and can also put enough water into the cylinder to hydro lock it. Perhaps you need to retain some Legal Council on this

    Low Compression

Welcome to iboats Try using a different Compression Gauge. How long have you owned this motor? Did it just start acting up? You could try spraying a couple cans of Power Tune into the Engine, to make sure the Rings are free How was it winterized?

    175 2 stroke wont rev past 2k

I used to have someone else drive the Boat, and with a air silencer off, shine a light down the carbs. You should be able to see fuel leaving the Main Nozzle. Wear Ear Protection, those thing are Loud. Dumping a bit of Premix into the carbs, when the problem is occurring might reveal a Lean Carb...

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

deleted I was going to ask if the Centrifugal Advance Weights were free to move, but it has an electronic Advance. However, is that working? How does the cam you picked compared to the Stock Mercrusier Cam? A lot of people figure they need a different Cam, thinking they are going to get gobs...

    No Water - How Long?

Don't know if this is what always happens but, you should replace it. An impeller, even a Pump Housing is Cheap compared to a powerhead A question though, How did you run the engine without noticing the Water was low?
