2021 Mercury 115 Pro XS cavitating

Cavitating or Ventilating? Lowering the motor will reduce Ventilation, but not Cavitation. Normally trimming the motor in, not out, reduces Ventilation, as it buries the Prop deeper in the water. Can you post a few Well Taken Pics of your setup. By 'well taken', I mean shot parallel to the...

35 hp johnson loses power at high rpm.

Check for Restriction/leaks in the Fuel System. Fuel Filter or Screen, may be plugged. Hoses might have decomposed internally, Screen on pickup in Gas Tank, leaky O-rings or Primer Bulb on Gas Hose, allowing air in. Also, if Fuel Pump has a Hose going to the Crankcase for the Pressure-Vacuum...

    1996 Evinrude V6 150 (60 deg) Looper Problems

The compression numbers are quite low. Redo the Compression Test with a Different Gauge. Unless the engine is in good Mechanical Shape, it is never going to run well

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

Fuel, normally only flows thru the Discharge Nozzles in the Venturies, when there is enough Airflow, to pull the Fuel out, from the proper Fuel Level in the Float Bowl. There is not enough Airflow at Idle, even several hundred RPM above Idle at low load to do that. If fuel is coming out of the...

    Mercury 60 HP engine question

If there is a Cap, the tank should be under it, so if it was removed, you have to mix the oil in with the Gas. Oil TCW-3, at 50:1, basically 16 ounces for every 6 US gallons of Gas

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

A 75 Olds had no electric heating element on the choke. In 75 there was an Altitude Compensator in a Lot of Q-jets, some also had a Second Power Piston and Metering rod, on the Primary Circuit. In 76 the Altitude Compensator was removed, I know my 76 Olds 88 455 didn't have it, though there was...

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

It might not be USCG legal. I doubt an 80s Pontiac Carb is calibrated for use in a Marine Application. Even if the Jets, Metering Rods, and Power Piston spring were changed, the Idle and Off Idle Fuel Circuits could not be easily recalibrated, and same goes for all the Air Bleeds that are part...

Mercruiser 5.7 wanting to stall at idle after driving around

I have a Q-jet I liberated from a 67 Olds Toronado 425. Back then they used a Clip that went around the Power Piston Tube, that had a Tang to keep the Power Piston from jumping out. A couple of Year later they went to the Phenolic press Washer shown in your pic. On my 67 O-jet, the Secondaries...

Stutter? if you mean roughness, start with the Basics, Compression Test, Can the spark jump a 7/16" gap? Mixture Adjustment, and Carbs Clean, and floats set right I really don't see any advantage of trying to use a Balance Gauge on these engines. Likely was trying to Buffalo you, into thinking...

    Carburetors

By 1981, the Carbs on the V4 might have been Chokeless, using a different enrichment system for cold starts. I know my 82 140 didn't have the Choke. Carbs from both years had the same Airflow Sometimes the Linkage contacts were different through the years.

Fuel Consumption - Is This Right?

I doubt I will be doing any Boating this summer because of the Robber Oil Barons. Time to Nationalize(turn into a Crown Corporation) 1/2 of this Industry, as it is Too Important to leave it in the hands Private Companies
