    1985 Mercury I6 impeller disintigrated

Re: 1985 Mercury I6 impeller disintigrated Here is what the water jacket around the cylinder looks like. Any parts would end up in here. The water enters at the bottom port side and exits at the top going to the port side into the exhaust maifold 1984 115. Identical to yours

Is my motor blown...your thoughts please?

Re: Is my motor blown...your thoughts please? And it has water passages between the block and the head at the top and bottom, also sealed with o-rings. Very little chance of water entering the cylinder. Pic is of a 98 ficht head Zero compression could mean hole in piston, head gasket o-ring...

    1980 80hp head gasket?

Re: 1980 80hp head gasket? Good luck trying to change the head gasket, since there is no removable cylinder head on that engine. There is a water jacket cover that a lot of people mistake for a cylinder head. Water leaking around the spark plugs usually occurrs after the engine has run hot...

1966 merc 650 only has 2 blades replacement prop has 3? Why?

Re: 1966 merc 650 only has 2 blades replacement prop has 3? Why? 2 blade props were quite common on Mercs, even the inline 6s untill the mid to late 1970s. For a given pitch the 2 blade props were usually about an inch or so larger in diameter than a 3 blade. In 1979 mercury made major changes...

Is This Remote Oil Filter Relocation Kit For A 5.7L Mercuiser A Good One?

Re: Is This Remote Oil Filter Relocation Kit For A 5.7L Mercuiser A Good One? Just make sure you get the hoses correct. Dealer installed mine and got the hoses crossed. The filter had/has an anti drainback valve, also known as a checkvalve, which will prevent oil from flowing thru filter in...

i/o vs outboard pros and cons ??

Re: i/o vs outboard pros and cons ?? I've owned both, and if I were to buy again I would probabily go with a 2 stroke outboard. Looking back I had the most fun when the boats were 15 or 16 ft long with an outboard. In most cases the outboard will out accellerate the I/O. They look cooler.

is 4k too slow for WOT on new v.p. motor?

Re: is 4k too slow for WOT on new v.p. motor? Well, if the engine is in tune and has no mechanicals issues it looks like you are overpropped. Is the carb linkage adjusted prpperly to permit the throttle plates to open fully? You don't say what kind of prop you have pesently, nor what pitch it...

    Re-power or leave it alone?

Re: Re-power or leave it alone? Going to a 115/120 hp will give at best 5 maybe 6 mph. With a bit of tweaking, like raising the engine up a couple of holes on the transom bracket, getting rid ballast, like the wife and mother in law(girlfriends and mistresses can stay), and careful choice of...

    1985 90hp mercury inline 6

Re: 1985 90hp mercury inline 6 I had a 84 115hp merc for 14 yrs. Trim motor packed it in in first 8 weeks(first year for that design), Carb floats would occasionally stick and flood. Fried one switchbox. Had an issue with the waterjacket leaking water around sparkplug #2, replacing gasket was a...

    Which propeller brand?

Re: Which propeller brand? I would try a 20in Mercury Enertia. My glastron 195 sx with VP I/O came with a 21 inch. The Enertia has better hotshot and top speed than the stock prop. Also the boat rides higher in the water and the prop rares lets go of the water unless trimmed way too far out.

how fast should my 82 procraft fish n ski go with 82 evinrude 150 hp

Re: how fast should my 82 procraft fish n ski go with 82 evinrude 150 hp The rpm range for that motor is 4500-5500. 5800-6000 is a bit high on it. A 23 would drop you down about 400rpm. With a performance SS prop you could raise the engine off the transom a couple of holes that will give you...

Do I have a better option? Prop Selection Question.

Re: Do I have a better option? Prop Selection Question. your motors' WOT rpm range is 5500-6000. You are right in the ballpark rpm wise. The 17 is a little small but will be an excellent prop for sking. Just be careful not to pull anybodys' arms out of their sockets. Personally I swear by the...

    Confused on Evinrude 140

Re: Confused on Evinrude 140 Not to worry about the overpowering. The crank rated 140 never put out more tha 130hp at the crank on the best days. They could get away with calling it a 140 because it was within so many percent of the rated HP. Later when it became a proshaft rated engine it was...
