Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

Yes as racerone says. If the distributor has points and the Magna Power CD box goes bad. You can remove the CD box and install a capacitor (condenser) and a regular auto style ignition coil. You also have to change spark plugs to regular plugs with a bent electrode. The surface gap plugs used in...

Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

Thank you The Force power, but I am just a simple leisure mechanic that works on old OBs and fond of Chrysler/Force engines.

Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

There are some triggers, capacitor modules and maybe alternator at Ebay US. But to expensive in my opinion. Think the trigger is out for 100-110 dollars!!!!!! It is a pitty that CDI Electronics discontinued the CD module as a R&R unit. I have a couple of those that are bad, maybe some start it...

Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

ct1762 I have one 1977 65Hp with twin carb, 818cc and the larger LU. Have also two 60Hp twin carb 818cc with the smaller LU. All three with MAG II ignition. I have bought all ignition parts I have found for the MAG II. Even from Ebay US (I am in Sweden Europe) Alternators, triggers, capacitor...

Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

As I am in Sweden Europe I am a little bit jealous on you folks that are in the US. There are much more used and parts Chrysler/Force engines out there. In those days (late 60.es early 70.es) when Chrysler was on the market they were number four or five here in Sweden. Mercury, OMC and swedish...

    Force 120 or 125?

Just want to correct jerry at the spec. of the engines. The 125Hp had 3,312 in bore, the 120Hp had 3.375 in bore. Except for the 1990 120Hp A model which had 3.312 in bore. The stroke was the same of both.

    1978 Evinrude 70HP- Trouble starting/idling/bogging under load

Check fuel pump diaphragm. If bad, fuel will enter the crank case direct from the fuel pump not going through the carbs.

    Johnson 50 2stroke Starting issue

The thread says Johnson 50 2 stroke. Modelnumber? Early 70.es (71 and up) loop charged "looper" OMC 50-55Hp was known as "explode motor". They shoot a hole or a crack into the crank case when the connecting rod or the piston broke. I have had some of those engines and sometimes it is hard to see...

    Johnson control box

Not knowing your control box but I would never go for a Chinese one. Buy a used OEM box instead. Most parts from China are crap.

1989 force 85hp shift pivot screw

If the drain plug is hard to remove try to gently heat the area around and the plug with a propan torch or if you have a gas welding set up with oxygen and acetylen. The general way to fill the gear oil is from the drain plug. When filling from bottom you know that no air will remain in the LU...

Need Help Identifying an OMC Lower Unit

I have a 50Hp 1989 Yamaha and this unit is very similar to the unit on the yamaha. I think OMC never use that bearing housing with a washer with tabs and a nut. Mercury and Force had that design. It is a Yamaha LU, difficult to see if is is 40, 50, 60 or 70Hp. Maybe a 90Hp?

Most common problems with 4 cyl / 3cyl chrysler outboards

In my opinion 2 strokers do not want to idle for long times. The bigger engines the harder it is to idle for long times are my opinion. The advantages with those surface gap plugs are they are easy to clean from fouling. Just wipe them with a piece of rag. If you have clean the screens at the...

Most common problems with 4 cyl / 3cyl chrysler outboards

One simple tips is to put a piece of rag at the bottom cowl just in front of the carbs when tilting the engine up. It will absorb the fuel, then pull it any when running the engine and then change it every time you tilt it up. I do not think there was an air silencer at the 4 cylinders as it was...

1988 50 hp force no spark?

1974 9.9 Johnson running problems. I can get it started but then runs very ruff.

First of all check compression and then for spark at both cylinders. Compression should be 100 PSI or more at both cylinders. Maximum 10-15% in different between them. Spark should jump 3/8 of an inch or more in atmosphere. If that checks out good pull the carb and clean it.

1969 85hp starflite, low power and cutting in and out

That seams the culprit with your issue. Looks like the capacitors in the amplifier are bad. They dry out when old and you get lower output voltage from the amplifier to the coil. Have you check the coil? Bad insulation and it will fail when gets warm.

1969 85hp starflite, low power and cutting in and out

Try to heat up the amplifier with a heating gun and check if it fails. Do not heat it up to much with the heating gun!! 135-140 dgr F (55-60 dgr C) is enough.

1969 85hp starflite, low power and cutting in and out

Not uncommon CD boxes, switchboxes and amplifiers fail after they are heated up. I have had these kind of issues at different brand such as OMC engines, Mercurys, Chrysler/Force and the japanees brands.

    Cleaning drain passages

No sealant at the surface at LU to midleg. Yes, the cavity where the shift rod goes is exposed of water. There is a seal for the shift rod where it goes into the gear case. You might be seeing the seal from cavity or not. Do not have in my mind right now if the seal is push in from the gear case...
