    85hp charger speed/prop/rpm concerns

Generally going up or down one inch in pitch will lower/rise the RPM about 200rpm. Going from 19 in in pitch and 7000RPM to a 21 in pitch prop will end up at about 6500-6600RPM

85 force lower unit drain plug

Have you check the terminal lugs for all the thin wires from the triggers? It is common that the wires break under the shrink tubes cause they are so thin.

85 force lower unit drain plug

You can swap CD boxes and use the #2 output channel from box one (feeding #1 and #2 cylinder right now) to feed "3 cylinder. But you have to rewire the wires from trigger for "3 cylinder so they feed the second output channel for the CD box.

    Johnson stops dead!

As my note in post #6, electronic components can fail when get old and heats up. I have had the same issues with at least 3-4 engines (Mercurys 7.5 and 9.8Hp in this case if I do not remember wrong.). As a roll of tumb is that electronic components lifespan is shortened by half if the ambient...

Most common problems with 4 cyl / 3cyl chrysler outboards

As topgun and jerry says, parts engine is a good ide. Maintain it regulary, if you do not want to pay much money for ignition parts (I suppose you have the Motorola Magna Power I CD box and a belt driven distributor with a preamp instead of points) buy a used distributor with points. If the...

    Johnson stops dead!

What is the brand of the new power pack for 43 dollar!! Check if it is a Chines manufacturer. In my opinion keep away from Chines aftermarket parts. It is crap, buy a OEM, Sierra or CDI part and you will not be disappointed.

    Lower Unit Bearing Carrier Leaking

If you can manage to remove the lock nut and the carrier without damage them..... yes it is worth it. Change the o-ring and put some liquid gasket such as Permatex form a gasket aviation no.3 or equal at the o-ring. I use this liquid gasket in many application on outboards.

Check for spark immediately when it stop. CDI box maybe die when it heats up. Electronic components are sensitive to heat when gets old.

Engine stopped high end on water

Have you tried running without the hood on? Maybe you have an exhaust leakage, check the rubber boot exhaust outlet at the back of the midleg. As you can rev it up in the drive way but not in water. In the drive way you do not have any back pressure from the water for the exhaust but in water...

What kind of CD box do you have? There are four OEM boxes and one aftermarket if I do not remember wrong. Two from manufacture Delta and two from Motorola and one from aftermarket CDI Electronics. The oldest one from Delta with two power transistors mounted on the housing would make a high...

Try with heat from a propan torch around the allen screw and then try to drive it out with a small punch. Heat will help as the screw is made of steel and the LU case is aluminium alloy. The will expand different when heating. The allen screw has fine threads and if been in salt water it will...

1988 50 hp force no spark?

Maybe your multimeter has a DVA range. There are DVA multimeters out there on the market ... yes. What a DVA adapter does or actually contain are a capacitor a diod and a resistor. The diod rectifie the AC voltage and the voltage is then stored in the capacitor. With a regular VOM or multimeter...

1988 50 hp force no spark?

As jiggz says check insulation for the trigger wires to ground. From my experience the trigger voltage goes up to 2-5V but as jiggz says 0 Volt you are measure and 0,5V DVA is pretty close so a DVA adapter connect to your Fluke is needed to confirm if the triggers are okey.. As you mention you...
