    Wiring issues 85hp force

Here's a full one, in case you don't have one

Force not getting over 2500rpms WOT

THIS WAS WRTTEN BY THE LATE FRANK A. 1.Disconnect the ball link to the carb cam at the timing tower. Disconnecting at the cam risks bending the cam. Move the cam away from the carb roller. 2. Loosen the screw(s) on the aluminum tie bar and let all carbs close completely, then tighten again. 3...

Force not getting over 2500rpms WOT

You said the Carbs. were "soaked" can I assume you cleared all passages with compressed air? Does it sound like its bogging down? Check the spark-plugs to see if the burn evenly? Check for water droplets on the bottom one Have you set-up the linkage to the carbs. right?

Force not getting over 2500rpms WOT

Verify if these fuel-pumps are in fact any good? otherwise you're just guessing (my bet would be the fuel-pump) What are your carb. idle-screws adjustment set at? Are you checking the spark with a gap-tester?

    No Spark After a Short - '89 50hp

Just checking... you are checking this while cranking the engine correct?
  6. The Force power

    No Spark After a Short - '89 50hp

Like jerry said; have you disconnected the "kill" circuit wire to see if you get spark?
  7. The Force power

    No Spark After a Short - '89 50hp

You'll need to know what you have first! even a good tested Stator can be bad, in the meantime Verify the condition of All your ground-wires incl. ground-strap(s)

New Force Owner, No Start Issue

?? It is possible to "set" your timing at 31 degrees while the key has sheared. ( you are after all taking the readings of the flywheel) It's to verify; run the nut off & check if both cut-outs line up (flywheel/crank-shaft) Make sure to Re-torque to 80 or so Flbs However I would set the...

New Force Owner, No Start Issue

Welcome, Check the condition of the battery-cables & the connectors (especially the ground, in fact check/clean all your grounds!) Open the Starter, check the condition of the armature/brushes A slow turning Starter does not produce enough speed for the flywheel to go around the stator & to...

    92 force 90

As Jerry already mentioned; verify the timing is advancing to max in full throttle ALSO verify the shutters in the carbs. are fully open! inspected/rebuilt the fuel pump otherwise we keep guessing

    1990 18' Bayliner

Thank you all that have tuned in and have giving me their advise/opinion. both sides have solid points (scrap vs rebuild) I think I'm going to use up the boat for now and make a decision in the next seasons ahead

    1990 18' Bayliner

My bayliner Capri has a 90 hp outboard and I noticed that the boat is starting to lay deeper in the water at the transom. There's a small soft spot around the port side close to the battery storage. I've read a lot of posts about bayliner & restoration of them to know that my problem is just the...
  13. The Force power

    92 force 90

Are all plugs burning evenly? what are your max rpms reading under load? While engine is idling; pull one plug-wire off the spark-plug & listen for a rpm drop. IF with one of them you notice no drop in rpms; then that is the cylinder of the engine that not working
  14. The Force power

    92 force 90

Welcome back -what are your compression readings? - are all plugs firing? Check each cylinder for rpm drop, while in running idle - is the fuel-pump inspected/rebuilt? - did you check the spark with a spark-tester? You may not be an boat engine guy, but you'll a few good testing tools are...

    Replace kill switch or bypass?

The switches out there either normally open & normally closed and some switches have the terminals to hook up for either requirements

    Replace kill switch or bypass?

Totally agree, you don't need it.......TILL YOU DO and it will be in the most crucial moment

1993 mercury force 90 hp not starting

In addition to all the great advice pervious mentioned Do yourself a favor; stop using starter fluid as this dissolves the needed lubrication for the pistons, get a fuel rated spray bottle and premix fuel.

    90 compression on 135 hp

Jerry, you have been saying this for years and we all have to find out personally :)

    Force 125 lacking power

I've seen on this form someone mentioning that the 90 hp was really "a tweaked" 85 hp & the 125 really a 120 hp Having said this I only know the 85 & 90 hp motors
  20. The Force power

    Force 125 lacking power

Like Redbarron%% said; re-seal head gasket with Hylomar blue silicon ( a word of caution) APPLY only a thin film of it but too much will result into a gap between the cylinder & cooling passage. this will result in low compression and steam-cleaning
