1989 bayliner 85hp Force Starting Issues

Make sure your battery-cables /ends are good & clean/tied. The fly-wheel has to spin fast enough to produce the power to create enough voltage to make the spark

Running issues with Force 90HP, year 1991

I would start by inspecting all the wire terminals on the terminal-strip by gently pulling on the wires (they tend to break under the shrink-wrap) After you have inspected/repaired the wiring, follow the instructions carefully and DON'T skip ANY steps. Welcome & keep us posted. 1.Disconnect...

Bad plug wire- 89 force 85hp

Yeah, we got distracted by the prop. Inspect the diaphragms in the fuel-pump/the vent in fuel-tank Also verify all trigger-wires & their ends by gently tugging on them (they tend to break under the shrink-tube)

Bad plug wire- 89 force 85hp

I meant to say that 4300 rpms full tilt is not "great" and could be caused by a wrong pitched prop

To set-up the choke-solenoid around plunger; 1 - Loosen clamp that holds solenoid 2 - Close choke-assembly (plunger will go down) 3 - While choke-plates in cabs are closed & held in place!! slightly push the solenoid up so that the plunger bottoms out 4- Tighten clamp (Don't forget to...

Hints for setting idle mix on 1989 Force 85hp

When confirmed that all ignition-components are good & this is followed precisely; the motor should run! (this was a life saver for me many times & I keep a printed copy together with the manual)

Hints for setting idle mix on 1989 Force 85hp

THIS WAS WRTTEN BY THE LATE FRANK A. 1.Disconnect the ball link to the carb cam at the timing tower. Disconnecting at the cam risks bending the cam. Move the cam away from the carb roller. 2. Loosen the screw(s) on the aluminum tie bar and let all carbs close completely, then tighten again. 3...

    Starter and choke issue

When you energize the choke, do you have full power at the terminal of the solenoid ? if yes, do you get any voltage-reading on the body of the solenoid ? If any significant reading is present, that would mean the solenoid is not properly grounded. Also check all the ground terminals under the...

    Starter and choke issue

It is most likely the switch, you could spray some contact cleaner in the switch; sometimes that helps. (btw the relays are only used for the power trim)

My 18' Bayliner Capri (1990) had a 15 P but switched it out to 17 and run full tilt at 5500 rpm when just me in the boat. With 4 people trim down she runs 5000 rpms

Force not getting over 2500rpms WOT

    9. Take the boat out on the water and do a "hole shot"--Full throttle acceleration from a stop. If the engine "sags" then recovers and picks-up it is too lean. Open the needles about 1/16 turn at a time until the engine accelerates with no hesitation. If the engine sputters or coughs or burbles...

New Force Owner, No Start Issue

You can "check" BUT You don't "set" the Idle timing you set the RPMS with carbs. Adjust idle speed to 700-750 RPM in the water in forward gear. Do this with the screw on the bottom of the timing tower. Loosen the locknut and adjust. Screwing in increases idle speed. Do this in small increments...
