    salt water in single cylinder

There are no “marine” blocks or heads only add ons like the head gaskets, core plugs etc. the M refers to the us of some metric fittings. In that case if you use it be careful with threading in fasteners in fact you might want to buy an SAE/Metric thread chaser set so you can check them first!

    Volvo Penta stiff steering

However, any stiffness in the system will cause the power assist to lag behind the manual aspect of the steering. That's why you have to check the cable/helm unit and the swivel housing bushings....

    Volvo Penta stiff steering

While it might be a trial to fit yourself back in there, I'd try disconnecting the steering cable from the steering arm and see if you can push and pull the cable easily. And spin the wheel to see how the helm unit is. If that stuff is original it is all 25 years old! If it's not that, then the...

    Popped through the intake.

I think my # was from my OMC shop manual but I've see it in others to, 1000 ohms per foot. Many years ago my wife had a 2 year old Toyota Camry 4 cyl twin cam that all of a sudden started sounding like a 2 stroke! This was about 1990 or so. Very surprising to me, I ohmed out the plug wires and...

    Popped through the intake.

Hard to say but it seems that the spark is breaking down under higher rpm, try ohming out your plug wires, coil lead, and check the cap and rotor carefully. Think the plug wires shouldn't exceed more than 1,000 ohms per foot....

    Volvo Penta stiff steering

Ok when you added fluid did you bleed the air out? Is it always stiff in the same part of the steering radius (at ends, just off center, etc), or random? When you checked the cable how did you check it? with the cable disconnected from the steering arm, the steering should be very very easy, so...

Yes there will always be dumbasses but make the operation of basic controls INTUITIVE, so they can be operated by feel and make them the SAME, from one vehicle to the next. The term "standard shift" in reference to a manual transmission comes from this concept. At one time not all auto trans...

The Merc Weber 4bbl was not a traditional Weber but a refresh of the old Carter 4bbl. I know of the ones you’re referring to lol!

I heard there may be a way to defeat it. Another guy on one of the Jeep boards had this problem on a late model Grand with auto braking. If the back up camera doesn’t recognize that it’s a trailer behind you when you try to back up it jams on the brakes!

Here’s a real dumb ass one that anyone who tows will hate…you’re backing up, and want to open the drivers door to make sure the trailer isn’t going to hit something and it throws the transmission into PARK! Why, well the fool designers went away from simple intuitive auto trans shifters to...

I thought the Mer-Carb 2bbl was a modified Rochester 2GV (sure looks like one) whereas the Weber 4bbl is an update of the old Carter 4bbl used on many Chrysler products and the Edelbrock is very similar if not identical to that.... I have a Quadrajet on mine now that needs a cleaning and rebuild...

    Popped through the intake.

Old boats with carbed engines are just prone to these kinds of things, can't hook up a scanner and read live data! I agree I would run it, if the missing comes back, do a cylinder balance test.... Is the carb a 4bbl? Weber or Edelbrock? In which case it is pretty easy to take off the air horn to...

What might be interesting is to do a cylinder balance test. See how much the RPM drops while disconnecting one plug wire at a time…..with insulated pliers of course 😉

    Mercruiser 5.0 MPI hydro locked

If the intake water crossover passage rotted thru or if the gasket leaked that would put water in the cam valley but not the cyls; so water would show up in the motor oil first. If you have water in the cyls the exhaust is a much more likely cause. If you remove the elbows after draining the...

    Popped through the intake.

Interesting, the one thing that jumps out at me is some rust on a valve in cyl #5, but that might be nothing, and a bit of scoring in some of the cyls, again, if blow-by is normal might be nothing. This was a re-man engine correct? How many thou was it re-bored?

I have a Lisle gauge, every time when I've checked the compression it's always about the same. No water out of your plug holes? Just wondering about what the plugs from #s 2 & 4 looked like.... You have an inspection camera, might be good to take a look inside...

Well those are very consistent, no water out of the plug holes? I think you’ll see higher #s with a hot engine & wide open throttle. Mine was 160-170 but again might just be gauge differences….

The sad reality is that no matter how you look at it increased reliance on tech is making people less intelligent and less capable. They no longer use parts of the brain needed to read maps and solve various problems etc. Smart cars does not equal smart drivers Social skills in particular has...

What we need, most desperately is that all and any regulations be subject to a cost benefit analysis, right now the un-elected regulators have power to mandate things that should not be happening in a democratic society. If people think there is no overall cost to this, well what do you think...
