Vessel View for 2004 Optimax 115?

You have a 2003 engine, so maybe/maybe not. 2003 was right around when SmartCraft started. If you have a SmartCraft connector (it should be on the port side of the engine, down really low, below where the shift cable connects to the shift rail) it should work. But do you really want to? This is...

    New to Volvo family

STOP! You haven't given us your exact engine/drive model. The people giving you advise are well intentioned but could be very wrong. Volvo's can have 2 different flush systems. one of them can only be used with the engine off! You will burn up the impeller in the raw water pump if you run the...

    Carrier/Pinion Bearings Feel Lumpy

Only use grease on the seal surface, use Volvo Penta gear lube on the bearings. I've only over torqued these a few times and that was long ago, but I don't remember them getting loose/tight when I did. They just read high. I've only done this job once without the special tools. The main danger...

    Carrier/Pinion Bearings Feel Lumpy

YOU can reuse the crush sleeve if you want to, heck you can reuse the bolt that holds it together IF you want. It's your drive you can do anything you want, but why? You're risking a multi thousand $ drive to try and save a few bucks? The crush sleeve deforms when you start to crush it. Have you...

Official Recall Notification U.S. Federal Boat Safety Act:

hey @dubs283 Iv'e been retired for a while so don't see this stuff anymore. The S.B. made it sound like these problem filters are just in kits?

Official Recall Notification U.S. Federal Boat Safety Act:

I’ve seen O ring seals on spin on filters work in other applications, so maybe a manufacturing issue?

Official Recall Notification U.S. Federal Boat Safety Act:

Not really sure what to make of your response. Just guessing, but maybe you don’t have much experience with boats or what happens to innocent people who happened to be too close to some idiot who doesn’t understand how important fuel leaks are on a boat. Or maybe you meant something else with...

    Hour Meters growing apart

Dash tachs aren't very accurate, if they can achieve 5% they are considered good. The ones you have seem to be getting worse. You will need to live with it or replace them. Accurate engine hours can be accessed with a scan tool connected to the ECM. As long as the ECMs have never been replaced...

    496 HO Failure

It would also be a good idea to cut the oil filter open and inspect.

Preloading without the rolling dial torque wrench

This means you either didn’t lube the bearings or bad bearings. This measurement is done with the u-joints and input shaft hanging straight down.

    496 HO Failure

What does the scan tool say for time in guardian? Here is what I would do If it wasn’t in guardian for much time. Put the boat back in the water and tie it down good. Run it at 1500 RPMs in gear and use the scanner to drop cylinder’s one at a time. If it’s bearing’s you will hear it better...

    Volvo Penta 2015 codes 697, 698, 699

Yes, you need a new mechanic. Rinda Diacom is the scanner I would recommend. Input your serial number and Volvo will tell you what manuals are available for your engine. https://www.volvopenta.com/en-us/service-and-support/your-engine/manuals-and-handbooks/

Mercruiser 4.3 MPI 262 CID s#1A34694Z NOT IDLING CORRECTLY SOMETIMES

yes, vapor lock or air entering the system. Suggest you follow the S.B. I linked step by step as written. It’s an old one but hasn’t been updated because it’s still completely valid. Only difference with your engine is the cooling system check valve. You should already have one, question is if...

    Volvo Penta SX-M Gear Ratios?

It was Commissioned in 2005 with a 1.60 There are two ways to be sure what you have. Disassemble and count the teeth or turn the input shaft and count the revolutions of the prop shaft. I would recommend that you go thru the upper and lower at the same time. Volvo has a much better gear lube...

Mercruiser 4.3 MPI 262 CID s#1A34694Z NOT IDLING CORRECTLY SOMETIMES

I would have thought this engine would have a boost pump on it, but I don’t see any mention of one in the parts link you posted. Maybe got something stuck in the cooling system check valve? Maybe a distributor cap starting to fail, O.P. Mentioned spark plug replacement helped but didn’t say...

Mercruiser 4.3 MPI 262 CID s#1A34694Z NOT IDLING CORRECTLY SOMETIMES

One of the problems with the coolfuel two is the only place air can get out of the system is through the injectors so once air starts getting in (thru a air leak or vapor lock) it’s hard to get it out without using the fuel pressure tester.

Mercruiser 4.3 MPI 262 CID s#1A34694Z NOT IDLING CORRECTLY SOMETIMES

Vapor lock? You didn't post a valid serial number so I can't be sure exactly what engine you have. But it wouldn't hurt to look at the MCM 99-7 service bulletin Don S posted. Under certain conditions, engines may experience a `vapor lock' condition. The three most common complaints that vapor...

Preloading without the rolling dial torque wrench

A few thoughts; No you can’t use a ”clicker” must be a beam or dial. Mechanics are taught to never use a torque wrench in the lower 10-20% of its range, depending on quality. Yes there is a difference between harbor freight and snap on. Always check the specs on precision tools you purchase...
