    A couple more I/O questions...

Nearly all Mercruiser had high warranty failures Highly suggested to follow the TSB and swap to the newer manifolds and elbows

    A couple more I/O questions...

The batwings were a cost savings idea to make the elbow and manifold as one piece. The truth is the castings failed killing the motors

    Marine Sea Foam

sea foam wont clean a carb. what RPM are you getting on the motor. if its running lean, that is a good way to toast a motor. I would use ring-free to make sure the rings are loose.

    Gas guage

gauges should not have constant power. they should be powered by the ignition circuit. however some gauge air cores do not move to 0 (home) on their own. @JPsanta verify if you have 12 volts on the purple wire on the back of the gauges with the key off.

Mercruiser 409 engine severe vibration issue

its a mercruiser only block casting running the SBC pistons with a 4.035" bore (max you can go in the block) and a 4.0" stroke. its running a holley throttle body because Mercruiser did not want to use the GM LS motors Rod ratio is horrendous, and the crank requires a custom flywheel (like...

Mercruiser 409 engine severe vibration issue

something is most likely wrong with the base engine level. did they use the old flywheel vs the flywheel on the 409? as AD asked, what was there prior to the 409? there should be no vibration strong enough to shake a coffee cup or brake sea water pump fasteners. did you mechanics do a power...

How would a compromised bellows sink the boat?

the exhaust bellows will not sink your boat, however the u-joint bellows can given time, or a bad y-pipe to transom shield seal. water will make it past the shaft to bearing surface, and end up in the bilge. add any corrosion or poor machining and it flows that much faster. Volvo is better at...

Steering at low speeds - Volvo Penta

since these pumps generally can withstand a nuclear blast and continue to run without issue, the most I would do is get a rebuild kit from napa, pull your pump apart and go thru it. most likely there is debris in the PRV. as far as hydraulic pumps go, these are fred flintstone simple.

Steering at low speeds - Volvo Penta

Not needed unless you have a race boat and are turning 7500 RPM A standard $50 Saginaw pump is all you need

soft layer glued to sides on inside of fiberglass boat?

that looks like glue that set prior to carpet going in. if you have cracks, epoxy resin by itself wont do anything. you need to add cloth at a minimum, however hopefully find the source of the cracks and repair it.

sx-a driveshaft bellows full of oil but no leak detected under pressure and vacuum test

Then the only thing I can suggest, fill it, run it, check it often. look again when you pull the drive for winter maintenance.
