Prop is making thumping / clicking noises when hand rotated (video)

If you knew about the action of the clutch dog previously, and now you are realizing a different noise, after an altercation, then by all means check it out.

Prop is making thumping / clicking noises when hand rotated (video)

Ok how about engine and the remainder of the drive train since they are all linked together.

    Scupper below water line?¿

lemme guess: Drain for a bait well, or built in cooler, possibly a deck drain on center console boat. Surely don't want backwash filling them up.

Prop suggestion for 1995 60 hp Merc 2 cycle

Did you also post this question on the Marine Engine/Mercury Mariner forum. If so, I answered it there.

Thrust Washer Question - Yamaha Performance 3 Prop

Shouldn't be any play in the prop to prop shaft interface, and the thrust washer has to fit snugly in the rear of the prop and the ID is sloped to marry to the slope in the prop shaft to ensure exact alignment. I bought a used prop from a long time in business marine dealer. Upon attempting to...

Prop is making thumping / clicking noises when hand rotated (video)

From the rear trying to turn the prop CCW results in resistance and the prop doesn't want to turn.....that is for F gear. Slowly turning the. prop CW and watching the prop in relation to the LU casting and listening, you will notice the prop moving away from the gear case slightly and then...

    Scupper below water line?¿

I had a Crestliner that had flappers on the splash well. Idea was to keep returning seas from coming in and filling the well when coming off plane, yet allow any water collected in the well to easily drain out. If yours are under water, I'd say that you are mighty stern heavy.....like some...

2004 Mercury 115 2 stroke - oil injection block off plate

I think you "fixem for a living" based on your posts I have read over the years. I fix mine to suit me using my capabilities, experience and assets....max performance, minimum cost and hassle. If I were doing it for someone else, especially for compensation, methodology would be more akin to...

2004 Mercury 115 2 stroke - oil injection block off plate

    1. I don't know what gold means...having had both of those (90 and 115) mine showed no signs of any gold. 2. As I got older I boated less and less. As a result when it was time to start the engine at the launching ramp. the starter would turn the flywheel and in the process ensured that oil...

2003 Mercury ELPTO won't rev above idle

You apparently have binding somewhere. Get a manual and do a "Link and sync" which sets up the carbs and the linkage to the throttle control. Otherwise you might have a lot of hours on the engine and time to renew the plastic clips.

    LOWER END OIL CHANGE

I always used a screwdriver sized to adequately fit the slot in the plug. Installed the new fiber washer and with two hands on the screwdriver, got it good and tight. Same for the vent screws you remove to help in draining, and ensuring the LU is full of oil. Never had a problem.

    Tell tale not peeing

On some Mercs, the little hole in the front of the midsection or LU...forget which is the pickup for the speedometer. Easy to tell as if that's what it is, there will be a small black hose down there and following it up it goes to the Helm with the electrical cabling to operate the speedometer...

2004 Mercury 115 2 stroke - oil injection block off plate

I have done that to two engines, 90 and 115 Mercs. All I did was to unscrew the oil pump and remove 1 of its hoses (so that I could pull it back), pull it back, remove the gear/drive shaft...easily removed just grab it and pull) and put things back. left oil in the tank as it wasn't bothering...

Best Outboard Motor Brands for Reliability and Long-Term Use

Bought a new Johnson 125 HP in 1972 and kept it for 7 years. Kids grew up, no more Sunday outings after church, so I sold the boat. During that time I never did anything, anything, to that engine but put premix in the tank and ran it. Sold it to a friend and he used it for who knows how long...

Drilling vent holes in a prop

I started small, forget the dimensions...5/16 maybe and tested for desired effect. Don't remember but I hit the sweet spot the first or second diameter guess. From earlier in this post: "Some props, like the Merc. Laser II have plugs of different diameters (available) and one that closes off...

Drilling vent holes in a prop

Most of not all of my Turning Point Hustler aluminum props for my 90 and 115 engines come ported from the factory....they are designed to mimic SS prop amenities except for the metal and it is a special, high density, aluminum. I get mine right here.

White residue on prop shaft, thrust washer, inside prop etc.

Lubriplate brand grease (in most auto stores) is commonly used in marine environments as it stays put and stays greasy in marine environments.....its white.

If you don't get any positive replies and a dealer can't help you and the magnets are cheap, buy both and test till you get the right answer.

Drilling vent holes in a prop

Years ago I found a diagram for where to put the holes and how large a diameter. As I recall I found it on here and it was OMC oriented but the process is the same. Using a HF drill press and coated drill bit with a premium cutting oil, I bored out one of my SS props. Took awhile but I...

    Water flow out powerhead

125F and 142F thermostat opening temps are in my realm of experience. Doesn't take much to pop the TS cover, remove the TS and do a quick check of the validity of your assumption and then put the stat and cover back in/on.
