Prop pitch for 150xp crossflow on pontoon

I have no toon experience but isn't a 150 a bit much for a toon even if its 24' long? I'm guessing 150 would be workable on a tri-toon, but a toon? Never heard of nor ran across that much hp on a toon.

    Enrichner valve

I was looking at mine yesterday on a 2002 115. Resistance was 5 ohms and the battery charger measured a couple of amps or so....way down on the ammeter so reading wasn't all that accurate but it told me that the coil was working. Also I was figuring out the button on top of the unit. After...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

I had the mid 1970's I think, 4 cylinder 85.....the decal was blue, silver and red and pointed down on the tail end....Mercury had a lower case "m" (which I thought was very in-appropriate...a proper noun with a lower case first letter). Another of my fine Mercury engines. At the ramp it...

Mercury 90 Loss of power above 4200 RPM

Well your stiff bulb proves that fuel isn't the issue. Those floats look horrible. Get them back to new and shiny and you will be amazed at the difference in top end!

Can my old boat handle the power

Just a side note: On a rotted floor (deck), hull, I had a BIL set me up with a fishing guide on a trip to Florida where he lived. The boat was about 20' long, open skiff type hull, wood, flat bottom with a 90 Johnson. As we headed out to open water and waves started to occur, the bottom of...

Mercury 90 Loss of power above 4200 RPM

Nobody hit on this so I will toss in a bit. Fuel starvation would be my first guess so I would feel the bulb which should be soft, and then squeeze it several times to see if the RPMs increase which would indicate lacking adequate fuel supply to engine to run to higher RPMs. Next, what are the...

Is a Tiny Tach a good choice for testing?

Not complicated. Put the reflective strip on the rotating part, run it, point the laser at the strip and press the button. Done deal.

Is a Tiny Tach a good choice for testing?

I have one of those and got it off the internet for a very reasonable price...forget the number. It has silver strips that you put on whatever you want to test.....I've used a white paint marker to make a line when I ran out of strips. You turn on the tach, get the test item running, point...

Water pressure gauge or water temperature gauge?

Does it have a popoff valve in addition to the tstat for engine coolant regulation? Popoff valves (of which I am familiar) are much larger than stats and are designed to open up at higher water pressures present with increased RPMs and allow additional cooling (without the stat's involvement)...

    Toon leak

Responders on here have said that an xyz toon's chambers are sectioned in answering another one's question....which makes a lot of sense to me. However, is yours or not, no idea. I would think that if you are going to chamber a toon, there should be some sort of disruption to the outside of...

Water pressure gauge or water temperature gauge?

Well Chris, I am 82 now and my boating experiences are an hour or so every 3 months thereabouts on a local 15k acre local lake. I've had problems with stats and popoffs, my only cooling system problems, and I doubt pressure gauges would have helped.

Water pressure gauge or water temperature gauge?

I agree that pressure is a faster responder but I wanted to know the t stat and popoff valve were working so I opted for the temp gauge. Not sorry......buttttttt the world of boating has many variables like fishing offshore, so I will agree "different strokes for different folks".....a TV show...

    Piranha prop selection help

21P on a 70 HP I think is a bit much, but the truth lies in the testing. I ran a 21P 3 blade aluminum on a 3/4"jacked up 70 on a 15' kingfisher bass boat, very light weight, basically flat hull and with just me and minimal gear and fuel and the engine was loaded.

What does wood free hull actual mean

The nice thing about wood is that it absorbs impacts, one reason it was chosen initially besides other reasons. Boating is full of impacts. Non wood composites solve the rot problem, but do they take care of the impact requirement? Do impacts delaminate them?

    What type boat to buy

Besides all of the above, check into problems you may encounter from lawless sources in the open water. Hollywood has made numerous moves about such events and with the drug trade and other sources, you may get more than you bargained for.

Solas stainless 4 blades all the same?

I bought a new Solace 4 blade (stern lifting design) SS 13+x19 a couple of years ago for under $300 with free shipping....don't remember the source. I was running a (bow lifting design) 13+x20 3 blade Mercury SS Laser and I got all the things you want with a 4 blade but only lost a couple of...

    1969 Lonestar Medallion

70 HP on a 14' aluminum boat is a bit much and that plus a kicker on the transom is also. I knew a guy and went fishing with him once with a 20' lone star with open ended cabin (cover basically, that ran a 70 HP Mercury on it and it was a good match.

    Steering Wheel

That looks like a popular variety and on the transom would be a 25 to 35 HP OMC, or a 30 or 40 HP Mercury depending on vintage as the higher HP OMC came out later on......I think the Mark 55 Mercury @40 HP was next after the "Hurricane" 25 and the 30 HP Merc after the 40 HP. I didn't research...

    1988 100hp mercury spark plugs

I bought a new '88 115 in the first quarter of '89. I had that engine for 10 years and only thing I changed was the water jacket cover that encircles the plugs at the rear of the engine....piece of cake. Plugs were NGK BUZHW (NLA) surface gaps and I never had a reason to change them. I had...
