    Raising the Transom?!

You have a 20" skeg engine on a 15" transom. 5" is your number. What you have will run but performance will be hindered by too much skeg in the water producing unnecessary drag. Also that extra 5" will put you in the mud, or catch on logs, or moss or lilly pads etc. Make a pattern of your...

Decarbing Yamaha 2 stroke with Seafoam

Decarb procedure should have numerous answers on any www search engine. Just type in the word. Years ago, when a lot of the old salts that help to make this site what it is today, were able to participate, it was talked about frequently on here and the archives should be full of...

12' Pontoon/Fishing boat nose diving issues!!!!!

I would think that once underway, any water in the tubes would move to the rear making the boat stern heavy, not bow heavy....force applied action/reaction physics thing.

    Heat transfer dope

White "thermal grease" is a particle (I forget the white chemical powder.....retired 18 years ago) infused "grease". As such, it dries out over time. You are smart in ensuring it's fresh under anything attached to a heat sink that currently uses the grease.

    Spray from the outboard

Agreed. Rule of thumb I picked up on here from expert/old salt conversations was that 1" of height above the straight line hull line per 6" of setback....... Think about it, the bow of the boat is usually high/higher than the transom area. Once the water leaves the transom area it starts...

12' Pontoon/Fishing boat nose diving issues!!!!!

What does messing with the trim mean? What is the weight distribution in the boat? What is the load vs flotation area.....does the boat sit low in the water when at rest? What do the tubes look like in the front....concave or pointed? Pictures would help in answering these questions. You...

Reversed polarity 40 hp Mercury -Coughs but it won't start

As stated, reverse polarity pumps unlimited (sorta) current through the reverse rectifiers in your rectifier assembly as there is no resistance (to speak of in the circuit and the diode junction melts and shorts the stator output to battery negative (ground). Replace the rectifier...

40hp '67 super seahorse top speed.

I pulled up a picture of it and that is an easily planed hull. Assuming that the boat isn't waterlogged, that is a pretty light boat. Remembering the inlaws 15', windshield, front deck and associated steering fiberglass with cross simple wooden seat, about a '60's 40 HP Rude, stock prop, with...

Old Evinrude question, Can anyone help?

Back in 1957 oil mix was a quart to 6 gallons of gas. My wife's family had a 1958 35 HP Rude on their boat back when I was dating her. Later on engines were refined to run on a better quality oil [Two Cycle (Stroke....current term) Watercraft 1,2 or current 3rd iteration of the...

    Compression test.

My SM for that series of engines but in the 90-125 HP category states to expect problems below 120. You have a smaller engine which may have a different crankcase design allowing for a lower limit. Even if you don't you aren't that far down so If I expected problems they would be...

Anyone Have Experience With A Solas Rubex Prop??

No doubt the 4 will give you bow lift at high trim angles if you are going fast enough and don't blow out. At speed, the trim is the secret getting the bow up and wetted surface area down, reducing hull drag. I'm getting that with my Solace and once I get above 35, trim is the secret and the...

    Thrust washer…..

I wanted to change props and thought a visit to a boat dealer that has been serving the community for many years would be a good place to start. I went in and there must have been 50 used props sitting on shelves along the wall. I shopped around and found what I thought I wanted. Since I...

Anyone Have Experience With A Solas Rubex Prop??

I bought a 4 blade Solace SS prop for my boat dropping from a 3 blade bass boat prop (Mercury Laser) at 20"P to the 19" Solace. All the things you hear about with 4 blades are true with my Solace. I lost about 2 mph top end, trading 47-49 for 44-46. I did it because I wanted what a 4 blade is...

    1992 Mercury 3Cyl 60Hp Oil Injection

I decided to go premix with a 2002 Merc. 90. I pulled the oil pump to access the drive gear-shaft, removed it and reinstalled the pump. I left the oil that was in the tank there ....could have disconnected the low oil alarm but didn't feel like it. That's it. Worked fine.....and put a notice...

    Propeller Interchangeability

Cupping is said to add 1" to the pitch of the prop, obviously putting more load on the engine. Cupping is necessary for high trim angles where the tip of the blades are close to the surface.....gives you grip where otherwise you might have a blowout and loose speed rather than gain. My 2c.

    Mercury 115hp

Like Racer said, its for monitoring engine block water temperature or pressure. Some folks like pressure monitoring as an aid to keep tabs on how well the impeller is working, especially for long trips. I use it for temperature monitoring as that is what interests me. Since you have no...
