    Correct---fit 5.5 and 6 hp 1960 to 79.----Wonderfull / simple / easy / cheap to maintain motors they are.

    Just ordered 4 SIERRA head gaskets for the 6 HP.----Far cheaper compared to factory and never an issue with them.

    Used to sound an alarm if motor should overheat.----Custom installation.-----Best to install a new impeller every 5 years.

    I would never install an aftermarket ( paper thin ) gasket for this V-4 / V-6 application.

    Bin working on outboards since 1968 or so.-----But , find a gray haired / caring mechanic in your area to help you with this.----Not many of those guys left I think.

    Remove sparkplugs.----Rig up a way to measure torque to turn flywheel.-----Record results.-----Remove lower unit and repeat the test.

    Is the felt wiper too tight ----Remove the breaker cam and test again.

    Did you have the armature plate off?----Have never experienced that over many years / motors !----Side note.---Those U-shaped clips are not installed correctly on breaker points.

    Perhaps one of the coils is rubbing on the flywheel.---Remember we can not see your motor.
