    if ya look on tha block kinda right behind tha bend in tha timin' arm there's gonna be a "build" date.. m/d/yr.. 1/8" numbers.. might be hard ta see but its there............. those type cowls came out in '89... who ever did tha cowl bungies, vents, decals did a GOOD job!

    ya might wanna rethink tha grindin' part.. something is wrong when tha right bolt won't work in tha right hole on tha right part..... did you try any of tha other three bolts in that cover in that hole?

    one thing.. do not "remove fill plug" in any position but all tha way UP (tilt rod fully extended)....... try runnin' it up and down several times after checkin/adding fluid before checkin' level again.............. sounds like it may have a little air show up (if ya lucky) when it makes...

    i'll try ta explain tha .462 deal.. when your at 0* top dead center there is still a little "play" back and forth.. when ya turn tha motor counter clockwise to tha .462 it eliminates all play in either direction and gives ya a hard number ta start with by setting tha pointer in tha right place...

    trash tha module.. jus make sure you end up with a short white/black jumper between tha bias post on tha switch boxes... once you get tha pointer set to tha .462 mark you can forget 'bout it... tha .462 will not come inta play settin' tha timing.... with advance timin' are at full advance, plugs...

    reg/rectifiers, stator and trigger all could be suspect but you also have an "idle stabilizer" that can wreck havoc when they go south.. tha stabilizer can and should be trashed.. still good or not.. if you don't have an oem manual send me an email addy and i'll send ya one in pdf...

    any 2.5, 2.4, 2.0 in whatever your present shaft length will work.. you didn't say?.. ratio's will very but you say its a temporary thing.
