    The 18 HP was bigger displacement.-----The best thing you can do is install 1961 to 1963 pistons and connecting rods.----These had a major improvement to a bullet proof needle bearing on the wristpin.

    The 3 cylinder 25 / 35 HP use optical ignition.-----Temperature sensor is needed to control timing for warm-up on cold starts I believe.

    Just STOP-----There is no bolt to take out.----Carburetors do not have to come off at all.------Find this hitch pin item #17 !!------I have done this simple procedure many times.

    It is Item #17 part #0330941 on the STARBOARD side of the motor.----On that rod ( L-shaped ) lever under the bottom carburetor.----Observe and work carefully.

    It is a HITCH pin that is removed.-----Not a cotter pin.-----Bell crank is pushed to port side of motor.----Rotated either to forward or reverse direction to release the shift rod.----Do not turn the shift rod during this work.

    You need to remove a hitch pin on the bell crank that goes under the carburetors.----Requires a pair of pliers.----Then that lever ( bell crank ) is pushed to the port side and rotated to release the shift rod.----No other tools or hammer required to release the shift rod.

    See post #26-----This should be so easy to sort out / correct !-----The pump housing on the 2 cylinder 20 / 25 / 30 HP looks the same but is not the same.----Get the correct parts and go boating !

    0340811 is the part # for the seal ( grommet ) between water pump and exhaust housing.-----This should not be a big issue to install the correct parts.

    The 2 cylinder 40 and 3 cylinder 25 / 35 are NOT the same set up at all.

    Place bearing housing on a tin can.-----Ball bearing down.-----Heat housing evenly with propane torch till bearing fall into the can.-----Gently tap needle bearing out while housing is hot.

    Those " holes " in the piston are machining centers.-----Absolutely nothing to do with oiling of this motor !----Lube holes are clearly visible on the piston.---Wrist pin has needle bearings.-----Heat helps remove bearings.----Perhaps a review is needed on the concept of 2 stroke lubrication.

    ?????-----There is a separate rubber seal that fits on top of the pump housing !----You have the wrong parts.----Hurry to your local friendly boat shop and get help before you destroy this motor !----Note----I own more than one of these motors for parts / rebuilding

    These older motors are far better quality / easier to repair than newer 4 strokes.
