    The timing fixture is nothing but a --" dummy flywheel "---The flywheel on the motor can be used to time the breaker points.----Just takes a little longer.

    Correct.----You are timing the breaker point opening to get maximum spark intensity.----Actual gap does not matter.----Rest if the timing is looked after.----A simple concept much misunderstood.

    It looks like it left the factory with 3 PRESSURE operated fuel pumps.----A fuel pump that runs when battery is turned on , would be considered a safety hazard by most folks.-----If those pumps are there I would repair them.-----If speed jumps up with choke then it sounds like carburetors need...

    The o-ring for the driveshaft is clearly shown.----Item 35 on the parts pages.-----Simple facts for you.-----There were many issues with rusted splines on older Mercury motors.-----On these they broached the spline to go into the crankcase.----This allowed the oil that you mix with gas to lube...

    Compression test. ----Post your numbers.-----Replace water pump impeller now.

    Have lots of these motors.-----Assembling a 78 right now.----Yes it is quite possible to fit the good reliable points magneto on them---Might need the older flywheel too.-----But the magflash is also very good and reliable so why go back to points ?

    #32 is a fuel pumping bladder.----#31 hooks up to crankcase air PRESSURE pulses.-----I would have to find a carburetor to check the threads.

    When these motors hit something ( full throttle ) they might experience a " dynamic halt "-----Crankshaft stops but camshafts want to keep going.----Timing chain jumps on the sprockets.

    Towing a 22 foot Islander that was changed from I/O to outboard on bracket.

    I would say that the outboard ( no mention of model / HP ) is lighter than the inboard / outdrive.------I would beef up the transom and tie it to the stringers where inboard bolted on.----Move axles if needed.----Go fishing.

    Many folks think that these big 4 stroke motors were not designed to be repaired after major breakdown.----If you can do the work yourself there is a possibility it can be done.
