115 Pro XS Command Thrust on a pontoon - prop?

Well the Go Fast prop slip calculator says that your 4 blade is yielding a 37% slip and your 3 blade a 19% slip. Large diameter and shallow pitch are the traits of a pusher prop and being shallow in pitch means that RPMs will usually be up which yours are. Per DC Wilsons comment it seems you...

    Prop noise 1200-2000 rpm

Swag. Your TP probably is ported...holes under the leading edge of the blade designed to allow exhaust gasses to flow across the blades in the hole shot allowing for fast RPM increases and faster HP development which gives you a faster shot. The air/exhaust gas across the blade could allow for...

    What new prop to buy?

Sorry, thanks for the publicity but I can't help you in that power range.

A quick way to measure pitch

Well sir you went to a lot of work and it appears that you have a general purpose low cost aluminum, maybe OEM average performance prop. Any prop that has any pazazz, has multiple angles on the blades, aka a "complex" pitch/rake so attempting to calibrate would be best done by a design...

    Other causes for prop slip?

My opinion is that 18% slip isn't all that bad if you have a deep V with significant dead rise of the hull at the transom, with an I/O engine, with a lot of weight to be carried....folks, gear and all. If you are carrying a large wake at WOT and best trim you have what I am talking about.

    Whats this hole for???

With splatter around it I would say it's exhaust relief. When the boat is tied up at the dock or on the trailer in a launching position, the normal exhaust outlet is submerge and offers "back pressure" to the engine which impedes starting. The exhaust relief is a hole in the exhaust channel...

Found a snake skin in the boat. Now what?

I'd identify the species if possible. If its not a "pit viper"..triangular head, rattler, moccossin, copper head, or coral snake...small head, black, yellow, orange striped, small body for length I wouldn't worry about it. I know of no instance where these climb above ground spaces...

Moving from IO to OB experiences?

You'll get used to it. The rest of the OB experience will be very convincing!

    Transducer

If through hole type, finding the location from outside the hull will tell you where in the bilge to look for the ducer!

    Questioning Dealer

A lot of TP props are ported....hole under the leading edge of each blade. This is a hole shot enhancer as it lets the engine rev faster in the shot to get HP up faster. If it is in fact ported and your new prop isn't you probably will have a worse shot even though you dropped your pitch...

    SX cobra out drive crack

.....and lube any zerks that may be on the drive line, and change the bellows and drain and refill the lower unit, and remove your prop and grease the prop shaft. It looks so clean that it may be a deliberate slot in the casting for the purpose of inserting a screwdriver to assist in separating...

    Transducer

Most common is mounting on the transom of the boat. Some mount inside the boat just in front of the transom. Some are through hull which you can find by looking for a round disc (usually) type "plug" up under the hull, probably near the stern.

When opening throttle, inline 6 speeds up for 20 s and then lose power

Yes. Your squeezing the bulb replaces the sucking action of the fuel pump. Rebuild pump and check fuel lines for cracks which, if on the inlet side of the fuel pump. allow the fuel pump to suck air rather than fuel. Having any fuel filters new would be a good idea too.

    coil check values

The coil has to transfer watt seconds of power to the spark plugs to fire them. Thats volts x current x pulse width. Being a product, and the fact that you are upping roughly 200V to 40kv (open circuit in todays engines), normally plug fires around 18kv and the gap drops to a low voltage while...

When opening throttle, inline 6 speeds up for 20 s and then lose power

I'm finding that the plastic check valves internal to squeeze bulbs are questionable. 115 engine uses a 5/16" or larger fuel line...my OEM is 5/16..... Ebay has inline aluminum check valves and if what Roscoe said doesn't solve the problem, add a check valve to the inlet fuel line to the...

Tower of Power Cold Start Questions

I got tired of all that crap and installed an electric fuel pump powered by the ignition key being ON or START positions. Activate the fast idle function...lift the lever on the control or push in the black button and advance the throttle arm to 45*. Turn the key to On for a few...

When opening throttle, inline 6 speeds up for 20 s and then lose power

Take it back out and when it starts acting up, squeeze the bulb. If it responds replace the innerds of the fuel pump. If it doesn't help, check your fuel tank vent and ensure it's functioning....gotta have air get into the tank to replace the gasoline you are removing.

    Is 90hp ob enough??

Well Jim we do have some similarities. My first boat was an older 13' wooden stepped hull with a 25 Wizard. It came with a 2 blade aluminum prop from Western Auto, I bought new for $400 as I recall. Later I bought a Michigan bronze 3 blade. I called the first one my speed prop and the second...

    1997 mercury 115 hp

I had temp problems with a CDM on a 2002 90 hp so yes they can and will. Might get some white thermal transfer grease and put it on the bottom of your module before you mount it to the plate and do it to all of them while you are at it. While you are at it, do the same thing to your...

    Anti Cavitation Plate Height

Don't feel slighted. I have been boating, with my own boat since about 1957 and it has been Cavitation Plate all my life till I got on here. The big guns straightened me out. Once you objectively look at the two words, its easy to see that they were right. Wink!
