    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

Nice to see you got the old Holly out on the water. (y) Electrical issue like you say sounds like the battery is grounded to the hull.

    1977 StarCraft 18' SS restore

Hey Decker, welcome back. Some of the old gang is still active here but we have many newer active members too.

    Aluminum extrusion trim sources?

My local fabrication and welding shop had a whole bunch of different Al in all shapes and sizes. Not sure any was small like you want but if you have one locally it's worth a look.

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Yeah amazing what a young man can do in short order, now my hands are numb for a day after I use a power tool for an extended period. A wire wheel or cup brush will get the crud out of the recessed and pitted areas. Drill must have a side handle!

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Oh boy those dents are a tough one to get right again. I'm no body and fender man but from experience I know that you can't beat large dents back into place from the inside when there's a crease. Marine Tex for bondo made mine less obvious and it sands fairly easy.

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Snooping for corrosion holes in the bottom is a good plan. I would only pull ribs that had a leak show up or a visible pinhole and normally that would be in the stern/bilge area where water collects and tends to stand. John is right about taking out too many ribs at once, the hull could relax...

    1968 StarCraft Holiday restoration

I like that darker blue, looking forward to seeing it out in the sunlight.

    Ss16 floor supports

I would replace those old blind rivets holding the deck supports to the ribs. Seeing the dark outline means they're loose and have been for some time.

    Ss16 floor supports

Yeah it's nothing to compensate for, nothing on a boat is square or level and will drive OCD types to madness. If anything the slope will move water from the deck.

    New To Me SFM 160

Very reliable motors after they get some love and updating. I had a 55HP Johnny twin. I repainted and new decals.

    Is it needed?

Answer is no it's not needed in fact... The wooden motor pad is an outdated addition to the transom. It rots, compresses and creates an area that starts corrosion. My SS had one and I used a piece of .100 Al to cover up non-BIA standard outboard mounting holes and some pitting from the wood...

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

Stainless blind rivets is what you're referring to I believe. Yes they are more expensive and they are stronger. Are they necessary, no probably not. The reason is blinds are not used in any vital structural components, that's where solid rivets are used. The gunnels, side panels, decking are...

    New To Me SFM 160

Welcome to the tin looney bin, Great project! Looks like you have a Johnson twin cylinder on your SFM. Have you had the boat on the water yet to see how it performs with that motor?

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

I get the vinyl from Defender, they have the best prices out there that I've found. I've had really good luck with the blinds and solids from Rivetsonline

No advice for you on the fiberglass stuff, all I use is spar and cover with deck vinyl.

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

No that U channel does not need to come off, it's solid riveted on the hull and the gunnels / rub rail is attached to it. Here it is on mine with the rubrails and gunnels removed.

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

It doesn't look like there were rivets in those 2 holes, if you look close there isn't a mark where a rivet head used to be. I use all Van Sickle products, SE primer, regular primer, industrial enamel and catalyst hardener.

    1977 Supersport 18' outboard model

Just need to find someone trusting enough to pull their caps during winter lay up and send them to someone you 'know' for patterns.

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Don't mess with the red SC smeg other than to remove any loose bits around the edges if there are any. Yeah apply the Gluvit over it if need be. The only thing that took the carpet glue off my SS was Klean Strip adhesive remover and a pressure washer. Port cleaned, starboard you can see what...
