Figuratively speaking since the trailer was completely under water.

    Buying and Selling Online

The boats are all put up for the winter. I only use Mercury marine oil. It's hunting season now anyway. My lawn tractor uses 1 3/4 qts of oil. So, after a bunch of years I have a bunch of bottles with only 1/4 quart in each. They are all different brands. can I mix them together?

    Help IDing Trailer

When I have nothing in particular planned I often go to the launch ramp with a sixpack just to watch all the funny commotion. Don't feel bad - 90% of the boaters simply are clueless about how to properly and easily launch and retrieve. What's worse is that many have been doing it a long time...

    Help IDing Trailer

I had a boat and trailer just like that. That's a light boat and should take no effort to launch or retrieve. It looks like the keel is lined up properly with the keel rollers. As such, the boat should self center, no problem. You are backing in too far. That's a given. If you insist on...

    Buying and Selling Online

I sold a 35 year old boat online. It was a pristine garage kept beauty with complete maintenance records that were up to date. I sold it as-is with no warranties, but I was sure that there were no issues. I sold it honestly. The ad ran for 2 days before I got a call. He came right over and...

How much outboard motors have improved.

To each his own. Personally, the slower I go the less I have to be watching forward, and the better I can see the bikini clad first mates on the gofasts that pass me by.

You learn something every day. I assumed that hardener had to be used with a sprayer. Next time maybe I'll try that.

How much outboard motors have improved.

From my launch ramp to the river, part way at no wake zone. The rest is in the river with no speed limit. Total trip one way is about 12 miles. I NEVER go WOT unless a thunderstorm is approaching. Simply no reason to speed. I'm going fishing! This is all fun and leisure. I have...

    Carpet bunks and salt water

I don't do carpeted bunks. But I do like the "plastic" covers. I bought a new aluminum boat and it came with a new trailer. No choice. Before I rebuilt it I added EZ Slides (my cover of choice) and the $%^& things didn't work. Although I have had good success with FG boats, this was not up...

    Winterizing: Fuel in tank options?

I have an old classic car. Used to run leaded gas. Then it was gone and we switched to unleaded. Back in the day we used to have to have the carbs rebuilt every 5 years or so. We switched to E10 in the early 1980's and I have not had to rebuild a carb since then. My old Ponch as been...

    Help ID a barn find.

The Champion gas cap is almost identical to the OMC caps from the 40's and 50's. They were used on Evinrudes and Johnsons, plus their private label brands. Mid 50's Elgins generally used an all brass cap.

evinrude 25hp painting with mercury paint .

Your assessment is absolutely the best way to do it. The problem is that few non-professionals will have the equipment needed. That would be a big expense if all you wanted to do is paint one motor. Back in the day rattle cans of zinc chromate primer and lacquer topcoat, followed by hand...

    Seat Cover Ideas?

I had a Starcraft Seafarer and it was the deluxe model. The deck and seats were covered with MARIDECK. Only the bow seat was bare aluminum and there was no bow floor. I bought a few yards of the same color to do some custom work. Then I covered the bow seat as well, and added a plywood bow...

    Winterizing: Fuel in tank options?

I fill my boat tanks up on the way home from an outing. Thus, my tanks are always full. About the first of September I stabilize the tank, and then add more stabilizer every time I add more gas. Thus, upon winterizing I'm all set to go. I have a mountain cabin with some weedwackers and lawn...

Outboard Motors Corporation outboard model number?

Yours is a Sportwin. Here's a 1934 Fisherman, which is also a twin cylinder 4 HP. Yours would have looked quite similar and the decal would have been almost the same.

Outboard Motors Corporation outboard model number?

That number is too big to be a serial number. A model 4092 is a is a 1935 Weedless Fisherman 4.0 HP. Send pics of the ID plate and the whole motor.

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

No need for regrets. You may have just hit it spot on. Madison Avenue controls a lot of what happens here because WAY too many people believe them. The auto issues are driven by Detroit, who are just in it to make a lot of money. Driving F350 dualeys is a sign of masculinity, or in a lot of...

    RWD Tow Vehicle Launch Issues?

BTDT. In the 2010's we were subject to carcinogen chemicals so the fit testing was rigorous. The rule was we had to change cartridge filters daily. Back in the 1970's, when our exposure WAS asbestos, we were given paper masks. The rest of THAT story is that the amount of zillion dollar...
