    Clam shell cupholder drains

Oh, you mean a clamshell vent. West Marine has a whole assortment of sizes. So does most every marine accessory catalog. Probably EBay as well. Google it on IBoats and buy from there first.

What type transom straps do you prefer

I don't believe there are many states that don't REQUIRE transom straps while on the highway. When I last bought a new boat the dealer made me sign an affidavit that I would always use them, before he ever let me leave his parking lot. Truth is that most accidents (mine included in my other...

    Head holding tank pump out

Been there done that. Whatever you do you need to add black tank chemical to make it store longer. Using a shopvac has to be the most disgusting thing ever. I allow #1 in my potty, but after having done a few cleanouts #2 is verboten.

What type transom straps do you prefer

Personally I like Quik-Lock buckle type straps. They have never let me down. I will NOT buy a ratchet strap. They work nice and are easy peasy, but IMHO they simple don't hold well - always loosen up. Many years ago I was rear ended while at a signal. The trailer tongue split in half, the...

    Johnson evinrude drain plug washer

Just for grins and giggles I just looked up the Owner's Manuals for a few engines from the 1960's thru 2018. Not a single one says replacing the washer annually is a requirement. Maybe a good idea, but not a specification. In my case I routinely run a 1955 Mercury and a 1964 Evinrude, both...

    Gear shifting issue evinrude 70

I don't jury rig either, nor is money a major concern. If it was I wouldn't be inundated with old iron. I have a dozen or so marinas in my area. Not a single one will work on an older 2-stroke motor. However, I am blessed in that a major Marine business that works exclusively on oldies is...

    Gear shifting issue evinrude 70

Just did a cursory internet search. Clutch dogs parts cost $112. That's the problem. Not many mechanics around willing to work on old motors, so they can charge what they want.

    Gear shifting issue evinrude 70

I currently have 2 Evinrudes in my collection that had forward problems that were fixed with a turn around. Granted they were not 70's. Maybe some more research is required. Regardless, mechanics are famous for charging thru the nose.

    Gear shifting issue evinrude 70

If its the original clutch dog it can be reversed and it will run just fine. You MAY have reverse problems, but you don't go fast in reverse anyway. No parts needed so a $150 job. You may need a new mechanic.

    How does RV financing work?

Covid blew up the RV market. You could go camping but not much else. The lots were empty and prices were high. Now, its just the opposite. Camping wasn't what people really wanted. 2-3 year old units are abundant and prices have come down. RVs are built cheap - that's true. But they...

    Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda

Eons ago a bunch of people approached the town that had a park on the Erie Canal. They wanted to build boathouses at their expense (on city property). The city agreed to a 99 year lease and several houses were built. I was a little kid at the time. Fast forward and the new mayor decided she...

Ever buy a boat to big for your garage.

As a kid all I wanted to do was go out in Grandpa's boat. Stored in the water all Summer, and outside all Winter it rotted. He got rid of it. Dad said we needed a "trailer boat". Mom said it needed to be stored indoors. But,,,,,,it wasn't going to go in our little garage because she would...

    1969 25 Hp Johnny Rude/Kicker?

I said nothing about being overweight. I said the boat wasn't safe with that many occupants. You can mandate that the wife stay where you tell her. Little kids often want to move around. Dogs have a mind of their own. You have a narrow flat bottom boat. It will be movement sensitive. You...

Which States/Provinces Enforce Registration Numbers Requirements

The bottom line is that it's not the state or the county or the place. The regs are the regs. Follow them and there will no problem anywhere or ever. It's the Officer. If his wife poed him that morning you might be in trouble.

    Lifespan of airhead tubes

When the boys were small and wanted to go tubing (floating in our pond) we bought a couple at KMart. When they got older and wanted to tube behind the boat we bought ones more suited. The old ones were left inflated, tied together, and used as a "pillow" under our winter pool cover. They are...

    1969 25 Hp Johnny Rude/Kicker?

You don't need a kicker, you need a bigger boat. Your Jon isn't safe with that many occupants.

    1969 25 Hp Johnny Rude/Kicker?

Get a 1.5 HP Evinrude Mate. It would be better than an electric because it would not need that heavy battery.

    1969 25 Hp Johnny Rude/Kicker?

Don't overthink it. A 3 HP is fine. A 6 won't make you go any faster. Why a long shaft? They are hard to find in the small HP range. You aren't going to plane the boat, so the position of the AV plate is not critical. You just need the prop to be mostly below the bottom of the boat.
