    1988 Starcraft Mariner MR 220 V rebuild

The AL transom skin appears to be eaten up badly by corrosion, I would consider a total skin over. The bottom part concerns me the most on how to cover over that large eaten up area, even by a skin over. Post a pic of the inside, it usually looks the worst as that's where it starts on it's way...

Nice to catch bass during the warm months but through the ice, that's fantastic! That little Merc sure looks clean as whistle.

Looks nice, I like the Ford Grey too almost white but not just a stark color (y)

    1988 Starcraft Mariner MR 220 V rebuild

Maybe not the best in this case, vinegar works great for minor pitting and total AL cleaning to neutralize normal corrosion. You may need to go to something a little stronger in the acid dept. Since I've not used any acid I'll defer to others who have like @classiccat.

    21' Holiday Rebuild

I've done both, wrapped the individual deck sections and the vinyl over the finished and riveted in decking. Personally now I would do the individual section wrap on a fishing or a hunting boat as it would give easier and more options for repairs of a belly tank, damaged vinyl and the wrapped...

1978 18ft Mariner: Getting Ready for June 2021 Splash..!!!

The driveshaft seals are under the waterpump housing. On the Mercs I have the driveshaft seal comes in the lower section of the waterpump housing but OMC has a different set up on the older motors that you have to remove to replace the seals. There should be one impeller key that fits in the...

1978 18ft Mariner: Getting Ready for June 2021 Splash..!!!

I can't say that adding glass would be the same as braces that isolate that side spray rail chine. These boats flex and I can see that glass letting go. Adding the braces seems like a pain but the factory did it to solve this issue. This is what you're faced with not knowing will happen if or...

    New Journey

I drove my gutted V5 SS home from Alberta border crossing in Montana to North central Washington but the transom wood was in it. The only concern I would have is no transom means no stern eyes to hold the boat down to the trailer.

    1st boat - 1981 Starcraft SS 160

That burnt orange/red color looks the same color as portable fuel tanks, other than that no idea and yeah varnish is not that color. Anyway time to clean it up and move on!

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Going from 5/32 to 3/16 for the gunnels is an idea, I'm sure your trim will still cover them mine did.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Yes SC used the steel mandrel blinds on my Chief and I replaced all the blinds to include the gunnels because they were rusted out and loose. They also left a bunch of the snapped mandrels inside the boat and this is what was left behind, a rusted powder.

Islander/Chieftain project ponderings. Building the ultimate big water Starcraft?

If you can envision it then it can work, it just has to be scaled for the size of boat you have. You could take a fish cleaning table and modify it as well to have those amenities.

    1988 Starcraft Mariner MR 220 V rebuild

That pour in foam is the bane of AL boats, not sure why anyone would want to use it. Yeah it does look like a large amount of crud and corrosion is under the foam from the pics.

    21' Holiday Rebuild

I like the AL side panels, wonder how they would look with marine vinyl with adhesive on them rather than paint? My V5 model doesn't have the side trays, the panels go to the underside of the gunnels but you get the idea how they look with vinyl on them.

Islander/Chieftain project ponderings. Building the ultimate big water Starcraft?

Why not both? Nothing like having all your bases covered for fishing and cruising. 😃 The 22' Islander are massive compared to the 18'rs and yeah they made the 26' Islander Sportsman model too. The 26'rs are truly massive but not in the way of beam or sides just more length. Just look at the...

Islander/Chieftain project ponderings. Building the ultimate big water Starcraft?

Not very many guys with the monster tin and none of them have really started and finished their projects as far as I can remember here on iboats. A 16'r is a great boat for small waters but I found it was not large enough for my needs and that's why I went with the 18' SS for fishing. It was...

My first Starcraft I just picked up

Current drop and resistance is the main reason, loosing amps makes for hard starting motors if they loose rpms when cranking.

Garage Find 22 Starcraft Sport Center Console in real nice condition. Your thoughts

Great find! (y) "** If anyone has additional information pertaining to the history on this model boat please let me know your thoughts." I can say with certainty that is not the original bottom paint or decals for an 86 model year. I have to wonder about the bottom paint and the color? Is...
