    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

The place I use is Raybo Marine. He does phenomenal work! I wish I could still do this kind of work but at my age and body stiffness, it isn't worth the price I'd have to pay. You pay one way or the other lol. I still do all the maintenance and mechanical repairs, and only minor 'glass repairs...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

I have a 3M full face shield that I use for nasty work, like painting the outdrive. I'd get one of those and use the P-100 particle filters for what you're doing now and the ones for fume vapors when you start 'glassing. This stuff is toxic and at my age I'd never do another one of these, if I...

    Outdrive cannot clean

That one has a lot of pitting, I thought mine was bad! the prep on that, is a few days worth of work, for sure.

1992 Four Winns Horizon 190 with OMC Cobra 5.0L: Engine Oil and Outdrive Oil recommendations?

You can use that Merc 25/40 I have used it for a long time, the OMC gearcase lube is now BRP HPF gearcase lube, it is not easy to find, but you can use the Merc High Performance gear lube, I have used that in my Cobra for close to 20 years. If this is the dog clutch Cobra (the drive is flat...

Best Battery for MerCruiser 888 (1976 Ford 302)

I would also change those cables, you can see green corrosion in the strands of wire. for insulators looky here: https://www.bluesea.com/products/category/22/Insulators BTW, if you are in a coastal region, it isn't that uncommon to get pulled over by the Coast Guard for a safety check. One time...

New to me boat with VP 5.7GS

Agreed a Holley 2bbl is about as simple as it gets. For a $40 rebuild kit it could be as good as new, as long as it’s not corroded inside.

New to me boat with VP 5.7GS

They now sell ultrasonic cleaners big enough to hold a Quadrajet or Holley 4bbl. I’m gonna get one!

And spark plugs Also esp if used in brackish or salt water; exhaust elbows. Esp if there are any rust stains in the joint between the manifold & elbow…

    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

get a couple of pieces of 1/2" plywood about 4 ft long maybe a foot and a half wide, make a flat path, make your life easier. At my age there is no way on God's Green Earth that I'm wrestling with an outdrive. The jack makes it easy, with the Cobra I R&R it in neutral, and I use a thin long...

    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

I use a drive jack to make that job easier. These cone clutch drives are very good the main issue is the cost of parts vs an Alpha is quite a bit more but strength wise these cone clutch drives are closer to a Bravo than an Alpha. In general I have found that the OMC transom mount was well...

    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

My early driving days were in suburban/rural Westchester County NY. We discovered that with big & wide tires in the rear, old school VWs were nearly as good as Jeeps off road! Fire roads were our playground.

    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

If you still had that KG & it wasn’t rusted good ones go for $35k. I had a ‘65 Beetle & a Fiberfab Dune Buggy built off a 56 Beetle pan. One engine between them! Put 2 scissors jacks on top of a reinforced creeper to swap engines after removing the fan housing etc. Would love to have a KG now!

    Houston….. We’ve had a problem…..

Now this is vintage. I learned how to fix my air cooled VWs reading this book, I bought this copy in 1972 when I started driving and still have it, grease and all. Scott do you remember that yellow fibrous grease we used to have to use to repack wheel bearings? Nasty stuff! So learned points...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Sounds good! Evinrude, Johnson & OMC Cobra were all part of the same parent company OMC later called BRP. OMC = Outboard Marine Corp BRP = Bombardier Recreational Products, they bought the assets of OMC after they went bankrupt in 2000.

And for those of us that are a certain age learning how to set up a points distributor & clean & tune a carb was like a rite of passage into adulthood if you were a Motör head.

I was lucky to have an un-molested marine QJet on my 4.3. Properly set up they start and run well and are quite economical.
