Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

My son & I did some historical reinacting at the Museum of the Mighty 8th Air Force in Pooler Ga. It was a moving experience for us both.

    Drain the intake manifold?

Yep did my crusty old salt water moored outdrive last week. Looks bad but works great!

    Drain the intake manifold?

The drain the manifold on the 4.3 V6 applies only to the 96 & up Vortec engines for some reason the intake holds water unlike the older models that drain just like the V8. Make sure to also pull the bottom end of the big hose off of the front circulating pump because that area holds a lot of...

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

Thanks for the answer! Well when I get the valve I’ll see if I can test it & see at what psi it opens. I wish we knew which valve GM used in the marine/industrial engine blocks. Only other thing I know is mine was from Tonawanda NY not Romulus Mi. That’s the 2 plants that built the 4.3s….

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

I’m wondering if all S10 Blazers from the beginning had the remote filter or only when the body style was revised; or if 2 WDs had the regular on the block filter but 4x4s had the remote?

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

Now I am starting to think....for years....many S-10 Blazers with the 4.3, had standard remote oil filter mounts.....I wonder.....is it possible....that GM actually installed these at the factory?

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

Well if it's the same part, we will see, I can tell you Mercruiser charges about $17 for this thing. The odd thing is this: I looked and looked and looked at OEM accessory oil filter kits and also parts lists for engines that came with them standard. I never found an additional by pass valve on...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Mine which I checked this fall was 160-170 on all cyls. Same as it was when I replaced the heads 6 years ago. This is with the original never been rebuilt 1988 short block.

How do you all like your remote oil filter setups?

Well I finally found the valve that Merc uses on some of their 4.3 kits. I will look for the part # & post it here. I ordered one & when I receive it I will try to rig up a way to test at which pressure it opens unless it’s marked on the valve. Really curious to see if it has a GM part number on...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

What I'd want to do, even tho it's a pain, is remove the manifolds & elbows & set them up level, so you can see into the exhaust ports, and fill with water. Let it sit and heat the side of manifold with a heat gun to about 140* or so. See what happens.... Here's a pic of my 4.3 from a long time...

What about your elbow to manifold gaskets? Is this a wet joint or dry joint?

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

When I pulled off the cyl heads on mine to fix the overheat damage I took em to a local machine shop & not only were there cracks from the overheat but you could see the cooling passages were getting eroded from years of raw water cooling. So even if the heads could have been welded replacement...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

I think the hard part is trying to figure if water intrusion is due to reversion or static water line issues. Two totally different things. Reversion apparently became more of an issue with the introduction of the Vortec engines especially on the V6. In fact Volvo changed the shape of the 90*...

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

These three work just fine for me and can be rebuilt over and over again, unlike electronic mystery boxes and $1000 fuel pumps

2 Mercruiser 5L EFI with all 16 Cylinders of 175 psi or more??

the consistent readings are the main thing, and they are very consistent. now it would be good if you also had an oil analysis

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

the old way is better.....you can suck out most of the oil in the trans pan before removing it thereby avoiding a big mess. Next time it's getting a pan with a drain plug Common sense is not so common....

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

The lastest goofy trend no engine oil dipsticks you read the level on your info screen What convinced me that modern designers lost their mind was watching the procedure to check the auto trans level on a ZF 850HP auto trans (used on many German cars, many Chrysler products and Land Rovers)...

    Exhaust Riser?

In the fall I'm going to replace my elbows because by then they will have been used in salt for 5 seasons. The manifolds I will inspect the sealing surfaces and acetone test. Then evaluate. So far no signs of leaks either outside or in cyls. I have a local dealer where I can buy Barr Marine...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Yep I think you’re right it would be on both sides if condensation. With it happening on only one side it’s something unique to the exhaust on that side.
