    Anti-freeze Question . . . Change of Color ???

I would think zinc or any of the temporary hardness mineral deposits that might be in the bottom of the heater tank. PG is colorless so the dye is only for leak detection. Be interesting to put a pencil zinc in the AF to see what happens... Do you still get it testing as AF when it is clear?

98 4.3 Mercruiser Engine Removal Advice

Not sure what you are doing but I found it much easier to fully assemble and run on the ground. You can easily jumper out the cannon plug to test wiring harness etc then drop in the complete bob tail. I personally found it easier to remove the two lag screws holding the mounts to the stringers...

Water penetration in Alpha 1 sterndrive

Not sure the age of the boat but anything is possible. Even a boat kept under cover inside etc gets water in it. My previous boat had two soft spots in the floor where you came back on board from the swim ladder and between the consoles- where the floor got wet when in use. This was a boat that...

MPI fogging mixture vs fuel return

Yes there is a pressure regulator that bleeds off the excess pressure and fuel volume, but you are returning 10:1 and mixing it with 10:1 so it will be the same ratio not get more concentrated....

98 4.3 Mercruiser Engine Removal Advice

this is easier than removing an engine from a car with the exception of the height needed to pull. You can take the wheels off the trailer and roll it on the hubs if that gives you more height. Eventually you are going to re-install this or another engine? Would be good to figure out how you can...

    Trim sender vs stick

you can splice it or try and re-solder it. Yes a full repair has the wires going through the transom which is best done when the bellows are being done and everything is completely apart. If you are old enough to remember boats before trim gauges you can also leave it alone ....

    Tachometer bouncing

The float bowl is overflowing due to too much fuel pressure, faulty needle and seat and or float You can sometimes get the tachs to start working again by cycling the cylinder selector switch back and forth but likely need a new tach would leave it disconnected as a bad tach can short out the...

    Bad coil?

You need so e way to test for spark when it stops running. Would check the following when it starts acting up. 12 v on positive side of coil. soark off coil to distributor and from dist to plugs since you say its rich check for fuel dripping down boosters into carb throat, if so measure fuel...

What 6 cylinder Mercury is this?

Engine is very mechanically reliable if reasonably taken car off. The mc1 outdrive is also good. The issue may face due to age is some parts being no longer available as both the engine and outdrive have been out of production for like 40 years…. You can bolt on a new R/MR/Alpha one gen one...

what do you see wrong with this picture?

That is a remote oil filter pretty common on mercs. The fuel/water separator is usually down on lower left front of engine the oil in the bilge may not be a big deal could come from corroded timing cover or from drive seal leaking into bellows and into the boat. What would worry me is the...

Alpha One Gen 2 prop shaft seal replacement

I was going to make or modify jaws on one of the pullers we have at work. Not sure if I can make my own tool to remove the nut that holds the bearing carrier in or buy one (dont think they were too much$$). Luckily I have access to the shop at work ...

2016 Mercruiser 4.3 TKS (Carb) Winterization Procedure

No I have the five point drain, just no need to put the plugs back in the manifolds unless you fill the block up and it starts filling the manifolds when thermo housing overflows. Yes you can leave the AF in for corrosion protection. A lot of saltwater folks do this, but if you boat in fresh...
