    Transporting a 20' boat on a flatbed.

First of all, a deal that is too good to pass up is usually a deal that you should run from. Secondly, if the boat is in good condition, you will need a trailer to use it, so why not buy one beforehand and get it set up so that it will be hauled without damage. Thirdly, hauling a boat on a...

Upgrading boat? - Boat buying advice

See my previous post. Your chop is a calm day on the Niagara River, where we boat. Yeah, certainly you might bounce a little, but we don't find it uncomfortable.

Upgrading boat? - Boat buying advice

I have been a boater since I was 4 years old, and have owned my own boat since 1968. So, I gotcha beat. We have owned outboards, inboards, jets, tinnies, woodies, inboard/outboards and even a rowboat. In 2018, just after retirement we bought what was to be our forever boat and it hasn't...

    is it to heavy

Acceptable, but not optimum. The guy I bought the boat from was an old codger that had been in the bizness since 1945. He knew his stuff, and set up the boat pretty darn good, unlike the computer geeks running the shops today. In later years I upgraded to the max spec of 25HP, and the boat...

    is it to heavy

Our 14' tinny with a 9.5 will plane with 2 fat adults and 2 skinny pre-teens aboard. Of course, that was after prop optimization, induction tach and data collection.

1972 evinrude 9.5 need long shaft or different trim?

Absolutely not. Waste of time. That motor is waaaaayyyyyy to deep in the water. It appears that the motor and transom are both short shaft, but something here doesn't compute. The AV plate should be no more than 1" below the bottom of the boat.

    is it to heavy

With a family of 4 we ran a 14' tinny rated for 25 HP with a widdle 9.5 'Rude. We had more fun and good times with that boat than the guy down the street with a Donzi equipped with twin 454's. I also do fine at 65 mph on the interstate when others are bored unless they do 90. Its all about...

    Registration with no serial numbers

Every state is different. One time I actually DID build a boat in my garage and in order to register it as homemade I had to show proof of wood, glue, paint and screw purchases.

1972 evinrude 9.5 need long shaft or different trim?

Your pictures were not taken at the right angle so its hard for us to see where the AV plate really is. A sort shaft transom is actually NOT 15". In most cases its more like 16 or 17". Sure looks like the motor is mounted too low. Show us a transom top mount and a horizontal pic at the keel.

    Unknown boat

Brilliant diagnosis. 1F appears to be a Manitoba registration prefix. Blowing up the original photo was all that was necessary. So, the OP needs to contact that authority.

    Question about engine oil

I have 4 recent manufacture Mercs, and all 4 manuals have a temp. diagram on the page that details what oil to use. Its quite clear that 10w30 works for everybody, and the 25w40 has a temp. limit. You have to careful with some service managers. Some have been in the bizness for decades and...

    Unknown boat

Almost certainly not. Just like the registration for your car, it says year, manufacturer and serial number. I don't know of any state that lets you register a motor vehicle with the ID "Boat". Nevertheless, none of here know the real answer. Call, you local motor vehicle department and ask...

    Your Worst Nightmare.-

I gave up a six figure job because my boat would have had to go to a saltwater area. My buddy coworker went and all he had were nightmares.

    Question about engine oil

Your Mercury Marine Owner's Manual clearly states in writing what oil to use. It even goes so far as to specify the temperature range for each oil grade. Your buddy must have read the manual. If the temperature goes to 50, and assuming the engine warms up to that level, then you should not...

    Unknown boat

It simply breaks my heart when I see a beautiful boat like that covered in snow. The upholstery must be cringing in horror. I realize not too many people know how to properly set up a boat on a trailer, but that winch stand setup is the worst job I have ever seen. The redeeming feature about...

Purchasing 2nd Boat: Jet or Stern Drive?

I had that thought before I posted, but did so anyway. Maybe the pic doesn't describe the true space because of the angle. As a matter of fact, when I fish off the stern, or simple dangle my feet in the water, I sit right in front of the Kicker. It's imply a comfortable spot. The reason for...

Purchasing 2nd Boat: Jet or Stern Drive?

That's really funny. It just shows how opinions differ from person to person. Outboards have ZERO noise (almost). We still have 75% of our swim platform for lounging, on both sides of the OB. Plus, we have a HUGE lounge above what would have been the I/O, and the big hole beneath houses more...

Air don't freeze... RV antifreeze DOES!

Ever hear of the "Love Canal"? As young marrieds we were looking to buy our first house. A friend told us about one right in the middle of that fiasco. Nobody knew at the time. I noticed a smelly fluid oozing into the sump pump, and quickly nixed that house. Turned out my friend DID buy...

Air don't freeze... RV antifreeze DOES!

I wouldn't be concerned with flammability. My issue would be sending crap down the sewer, no matter how small an amount.
