Fresh water corrosion and anode choices…

That’s what it looks like (stray current) are you near docks or boats plugged into shore power? Your OB should be tilted up when not in use.

Fresh water corrosion and anode choices…

That’s more than slightly acidic water! Was it left in the water in a hot marina? That’s a lot worse than my Cobra outdrive looks after being moored in salt water for 20 seasons! And you need to use the correct anodes for freshwater which is magnesium not alu or zinc. I use zinc in salt water &...

    Exhaust manifolds, time to replace?

Agreed in fact when I do repower I am going to see if I can adapt the Merc Dry joint to my OMC/Volvo Y pipe. Might work because both used elbows with a 7* down slope angle.

    Exhaust manifolds, time to replace?

I just used heater hose make sure you don’t make ‘em too short so they don’t kink & restrict flow. 3/4” inside diameter IIRC.

    Exhaust manifolds, time to replace?

The water flow out of the stat housing is not 100% equal and on mine the (OMC/Volvo style) the starboard is a bit hotter both on the trailer & in the water. What’s more important is how hot they get after coming off plane

    Exhaust manifolds, time to replace?

I’ve been on the hull truth website a long time & it is a fishing/Fla/Gulf Coast group and are very much pro out board. What I see is that you can buy a new OB but don’t expect more than 10-15 years out of it. The blocks are cast alu with coated or sleeved cyls. Open deck with free standing...

    Exhaust manifolds, time to replace?

Agreed I’d definitely replace that hose. I have heard the same thing about blocks not rusting out here from 2 different marine mechanics here in LI when I asked about closed cooling for a new or reman engine. However the heads can rust thru this I have heard of. When I replaced mine due to...

    Four Winns hull strength

I live right next to 2 large bays in Huntington Long Island we have many large boats as big as 50-60’, wind and tides. I would not buy any open bow boat in the future even self bailing I want a closed bow for sure. It’s just how it is. If you’re out in the Sound there is commercial traffic tugs...

    Went with the Durango R/T

You won't regret it, the Hemi & ZF 8 speed pulls like the Super Chief. Don't listen to the nay sayers who seem to think you can ONLY tow a 20' boat with a full size pick up. Nonsense, the Durango or Grand Cherokee are more than capable, just make sure your tongue weight is right and the trailer...

    Check those wheel bearings . . .

Time to drag out the bearing race removal & replacement tools BTW Those 6 lug hubs all have the same inner bearings. What makes the difference is the outer diameter of the outer bearings. If you need to replace them just match up the numbers on the bearing. Smallest is the 5200 lb axle, next up...

    Check those wheel bearings . . .

Yep what I called a tab washer is the tang washer exactly what I had on the first axle. If you pump out all the grease if any look milky or rusty it’s time to take apart & inspect, might have to do the bearings & races. I usually grease em at the end of the season when I pull the boat out that...

    Check those wheel bearings . . .

You should have to pump for a while but eventually the old grease will start coming out in a big slug of Red n Tacky…those hubs hold a lot of grease I usually buy several tubes of Lucas Marine grease (the blue stuff) at the same time. Might take close to a whole tube for each axle. I had this...

    Check those wheel bearings . . .

Not sure who makes the spindles but I think Dexter would be able to say who they sourced them from. I think the off set grease fitting is perhaps due to the fact that a hole also had to be drilled for the cotter pin to retain the axle nut. With this system there is a hole drilled all the way to...

Omc cobra single shift cable setup?

I’m not sure but I’m think the Volvo used a single cable system from the remote control to the outdrive. The original dog clutch Cobra was always a 2 cable system with a bellcrank on the engine shift bracket. So that one is as you’d expect just like a Volvo.

Omc cobra single shift cable setup?

The ID plate & pic of the drive tell it all: Joint Venture Cobra same as a Volvo SX of the same year. Just painted a different color (OMC Charcoal instead of Volvo Silver).
