Valve body and the drum are both different as well as logic. The Ford actually has some better parts but the shift logic turns it into a steaming pile. I’ve driven both having had a Ranger and I drive the GMs daily.

I threw the 400 in the list because it ran up until ‘93 or so. I got rid of my Ranger with the 10 speed at 48k miles. It never shifted great and then at the end it started having neutral in drive and delayed reverse shifts and at one point some clunking. Loved the truck but was glad to let...

4L60E won’t leave you stranded in general but it has issues that effect shift quality and how many gears you have.

GM hasn’t had a solid automatic RWD trans since the TH400, 4L60E is garbage, 4L80E is less garbage. the 6 and 8 speeds are hot garbage with torque converter and a couple other issues. 10 speeds like to exchange reverse for an extra neutral. The Ford 10 speed comes from the same design as the...

Boat is put away for winter. What to do every day ?

I never actually got my boat ready this year. I was going to have it ready to run in September but I stopped procrastinating on my ‘51 Plymouth instead and did the engine work it needed to get back on the road, so now I have that to run weekends for the next couple months.

Right now we’re having a large issue with cameras. Brand new vehicles with 1-5000 miles with cameras coming in electrically dead.

Battery sensor won’t set a code if it thinks the battery is discharged, only if the sensor is electrically failed. The reason start stop doesn’t work is because it detects the battery is discharged or not up to capacity.. it either is a bad battery and the sensor is picking it up or the...

older cars are infinitely repairable for the most part. Going back to the 40s/ 50s and earlier engines were often rebuilt in frame. Nothing was very complicated, where even now with limited parts availability they can still be serviced and brought back to life Most likely the battery sensor or...

Caffeine good for sleepy old guy ?

I drink a 1/2 pot per morning in general, and I’ve been grinding my own beans lately. My K Duo quit and they no longer make that specific model anymore which I really like so I had to find one NOS on Ebay. In the mean time I bought a can of instant coffee. I’ve had the new pot a week just not...

yamaha 3.0 l4 blew head gasket help!

I use a $5 transfer pump that you can get at any auto parts store, Walmart or HF. The prices run $5-15 or so depending on where. Hook the small line to it and snake it down the dipstick. It’s a slow process. The pump draws a vacuum and you’ll hear and feel it working

yamaha 3.0 l4 blew head gasket help!

The engine itself was used by OMC, Volvo and a Mercruiser along with many other manufacturers for things like water pumps and fork lifts. So there is no shortage of parts for them.. where your going to have issue is with anything that is Yamaha specific. You’ll need to get an exhaust riser to...

    250CI MerCruiser Question

Chrysler coil and a ballast resistor or a GM coil and a resistor wire does the same thing. If you have 6-9v at the points while running than your golden. Since Chrysler ballast resistors are somewhat known to fail. Check the resistor for voltage and see what you got.

    Flux Marine Outboard Engines . . .

Battery pack on something like a Prius can go a very long time and for the most part easily serviced. Hybrid makes a lot of sense in stop and go traffic.. it could make a lot of sense in a low/no wake situation. Imagine being able to troll and turn down the speed to almost nothing, even...

    Flux Marine Outboard Engines . . .

For boats a hybrid technology would be cool. Smallish liquid cooled engine to run a generator to keep a battery pack charged, and then either an I/O type setup with a drive motor or an outboard on a pod.

GM is actually all Android at this point but they are trying to move into something in house. It hasn’t come through yet. My Wife loves Sirius XM country channels and for $5/ month I’ll let her keep it. I actually put a Sirius receiver in my car as my commute is in a 100% cell dead zone. I...

Yeah. I bought my wife a ‘25 Equinox Activ and the HVAC controls have a function in the screen, but also controls directly under the screen. I think they also voice command but I don’t get to drive it much to actually figure out all it will voice command.

Tech probably not paying attention. Lifters more often than not take out the cam. Damaged cam almost always means new engine. We had one come in last week for a lifter issue and needed a cam. Customer pay. Cost was $1,500 less than a new engine. Customer bought the engine of course If it...

I work on them every day so I ‘get’ them. The electronics are what I don’t like. A radio update has the potential to create a no start on a GM vehicle for instance
