1989 Mercruiser 2.5L 120HP motor overheating trouble shooting

About $300 to have it done. Less than $50 if you can do it yourself… They should be jetted close but the throttle linkage may be different

1989 Mercruiser 2.5L 120HP motor overheating trouble shooting

Chance you may be able to use it. But it’s not the same. It fits the manifold

Gimbal bearing came out with the drive shaft

Gimbal did have a little water in it so I guess no surprise.

Gimbal bearing came out with the drive shaft

I’d have chopped the transom off at that point lol

Gimbal bearing came out with the drive shaft

Pulled the motor from my 2nd parts boat to swap in the SC since it’s better… the outdrive didn’t come out so easy and when it did come out, the gimbal bearing is galled and seized on the driveshaft… anyone ever see that before? I know that I didn’t put enough pressure to actually pull the gimbal...

    Affordable fuel injection intriguing

The self learn is basically fuel trim that goes beyond so it will create a tune eventually. What turned me off from it was Holley basically telling me sorry, a distributor isn’t provided for my engine and that is it. I actually determined that a Delco EST will work with modifications based on...

    5.0 oil weight and amount

Sadly, possibly not anymore. I have not bought a Wix in a year or so but, word is going around that Napa is no longer sourcing filters from Wix. If the box isn’t marked Wix or Affinia than it’s not a Wix

    Boat

I think it’s an MFG…. But more importantly it’s dangerous with a rotten transom

1989 Mercruiser 2.5L 120HP motor overheating trouble shooting

You either have a blown head gasket, or in need of a valve job or adjustment at least.

    153 head on a 181

So the ‘86 3.0 head has the same ports as a 2.5?

1993 OMC 5.8 EFI and drive system conversion to Volvo Penta

Seloc manuals generally hold up the broken leg of a coffee table. They have accurate specifications but repair procedures are often incorrect. Critical points like shift adjustment is totally wack, for sure on Mercruiser. I’m sure OMC/ Volvo is similar

    153 head on a 181

Can I put a 153 120hp head on a 181 140hp? I have a 1971 120hp and a 1986 140hp. Want to bolt a Clifford intake up to it but figure the extra displacement would help. Going into my rat rod which is basically a model A frame with a custom built cab

    Affordable fuel injection intriguing

I’ve given up on the Sniper. I contacted Holley and they basically said they would offer no support for a non approved distributor ( regardless of the fact the software has a setting ) and they basically said the Sniper couldn’t deal with the Mercruiser shift interrupt. With a system that...

    Engine identification

987124 is an ‘86-‘93 OMC Cobra, and it says 5.0 so that’s either a 302 or a 305. Specific year doesn’t matter much between those years, although the order number is the serial number where you can get the year of manufacture

    4 stroke v 2 stroke. Outboard

It’s actually just a CDI with a carburetor on that. 40 year old technology. 9.9 and up has EFI in Suzukis lineup

    Affordable fuel injection intriguing

I think I’m going to go for Sniper. I’ve discovered that the Delco EST is pre phased with the rotor since it’s fully electronic including advance so if I buy the Holley jumper for the pickup and pass it through a drilled hole in the bottom, it’ll just work. The module would exist as a dummy/...

    1990 Rinker 18.6

Clean the points. If it’s got a pertronix ignitor, it’s probably bad. If it has a Delco EST, it may be wired wrong

    1990 Rinker 18.6

Check the points. Verify 12v to the + side of the coil. Look at what you have.
