Merc 4.5, any reason I can't just dump the block and manually fill with pg antifreeze?

Corrosion is the reason that Mercruiser Added it to the manual.

    First boat! 1989 Quantum 1800xb Force 125

I’m not sure what you mean? That parts boat I chopped wouldn’t have passed a core test almost anywhere. I’ll say my other parts boat a 1988 Regal Medallion that I bought thinking it may be safe for an outing or 2 before blowing it apart for parts never got close to water. Solid floor that...

    Copper head gasket

Dead soft aluminum would do the same thing as an old school copper gasket, without the galvanic corrosion

Looks like a rotten transom and an aluminum stiffener bandaid

    1985 mercruiser 3.0 starter

If you have an electric motor shop, they can most likely rebuild it. Parts are available if you are familiar. I haven’t rebuilt a starter in a decade, but it’s not terrible.. the starter is a sealed Version ( ignition protected) of an off the shelf starter for an old SBC or whatever.

Possible purchase of 73 Chrysler cadet

Even $3k is high for an old ‘glass 14’ boat, especially if it still has a Chrysler motor. Chrysler/ Force outboards aren’t too bad more or less but they tend to be worthless to most people

    Floor in houseboat

AYO fishing on YouTube actually did a restore on a 70s Steury houseboat which is probably similar to yours. Watch a few from the beginning. I think his is the only houseboat restore I’ve actually seen done, but infinite YouTube money makes it possible

Changing a 1989 4.3 liter gmc block to fuel injection

You have 2 options. Affordable Fuel Injection which is plug and play but your OMC shift interrupter drops rpm rather than just interrupts spark. They may not have a solution. And their kits are not fully USCGI compliant ( they can pass a visual ). Holley Sniper is self learning. You can make it...

    1987 2.5L Mercruiser inboard/outboard

I put a Chinese carb on my 3.0l as a stop gap since my original is missing parts of the choke linkage. It doesn’t scream quality although it does make the engine go vroom. It has a bad stumble Your not getting a real carburetor for less than $300

    Affordable fuel injection intriguing

I pressed Affordable for more information. They caved and said they are aware that there are TBIs with marine certification, but that they use TBIs that are not certified. Claim they are correct for a 1989 S10. Which is probably true. He said they have an OBD1 port. Hopefully he will confirm...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Ignition components

I’ve never actually seen one of those apart so I’m not 100% sure but it appears to be the DIS ignition, which never works right. Parts are NLA. It was used for a very short time so your mechanic might not even be familiar with it. Put a Delco EST distributor in it and go boating.

    Affordable fuel injection intriguing

Was discussing with my wife and she said if we’re putting this much effort in this boat, it should have EFI to be turn key like the little one is. Got thinking that Sniper has an additional input or 2. I could probably run an input through the interrupter switch and pull fuel to create the...

Changing a 1989 4.3 liter gmc block to fuel injection

Yes. A 4.3L would be very possible. There would be bugs and hurdles until it was ironed out though. Especially with an OMC shift interrupt system, since EFi is very good at holding specific idle rpms. It would have to be triggered with the ECU. I’ve been looking into EFI for my 3.0l as my wife...

OMC 140hp with 400 stringer sterndrive lots of questions!

16’ SS with 140hp will fly. The guys who know more about them than I do will chime in I’m sure. If it’s still serviceable you’ll find what you need to keep it going. If your boat needs a transom, it might be time to seek out a rotted 3.0L mercruiser boat and convert it ( Late model Volvo just...

    Affordable fuel injection intriguing

I sent Holley a message seeing about what distributor I could use to make it work. We will see what they say. Affordable also sells Sniper and they say they will pre tune the unit. But they don’t list any cost

I’ll have to dig and look into things.

    Affordable fuel injection intriguing

So it was a fuel only setup.. Having ECU control timing is probably less of an issue than I make it and it would most likely be fine, especially for a little 3.0l

    WiFi Security cameras

Are you talking like offline mode? If that’s what you are thinking, a camera with AP mode will work. I’ve got a couple Ampviz cameras set up for my sister in law in her cow barn. Barn is 120’ from the house and gets enough signal to work reliably. Any farther than 100 foot or so is really...

    Affordable fuel injection intriguing

Pictures of them online show Rochester products but some of them also have a Mercruiser emblem cast into the base. Since fundamentally they are identical, it would wonder if a little detail like that mattered that much

    Affordable fuel injection intriguing

Holley sells distributors made for the Sniper that are adjustable and can be phased for the sniper so that the sniper can control the timing.. I have a 3.0L so no such distributor available. The Delco EST will do the trick if it’s tinkered with and the module bypassed. It is basically a TBI...
