Considering moving and changing my type of boat(ing) and want opinions

I have been a boater since age 5. I bought my first boat at age 19 and have been an avid "boatman" now for 53 years. A recent Bassmasters article indicated that my waters were in the top 5 in the world. My vacation spot (4 hours away) is what I consider the best fresh water boater's paradise...

    Bow plowing at high speed.

Plowing at high speed is UNsafe.

    Swim deck kicker mount

Looks like a good workable setup. When you are on the highway, if you must leave the motor on the bracket, I would advise you to have it in the down position to minimize the torque on the system.

Wanting to sell boat need advice and info

My son just got transferred 4 states away. No boating there. He sold his house in 2 days, and then he called his dealer about his 3 year old garage kept boat. They took it back, no questions asked, didn't need a sea trial or even an inspection. The commission was 10%. He had been dealing...

Wanting to sell boat need advice and info

As Gerry would have said: "Now we're gettin somwhere". So, I'll repeat what I said in the first place.... - A Dealer can tell you the hours with his laptop and appropriate software. - NADA will give you an idea of selling price. Add 20% +- because its a sellers market now. If you're really...

    1957 Evinrude Fleetwin pricing?

That's true, for sure. But restore one to period correct, with E10 compatible parts, and you'll have a ton of fun flying down the river at mach speeds.....LOL.

    Bow plowing at high speed.

A 90 on a 125 is no where near UNDER powered. You won't be the fastest boat on the lake, but with the right prop that boat should run circles. Look at the pics. Its not a really big boat and its a tinny besides. IMHO putting a 125 on it would make it squirrely. My fishing boat is bigger...

    Adding a kicker motor

Bolt on a fixed Panther 550030 Swim Platform OB bracket and mount a 15 HP on it. That should be adequate for your boat. Whether the swim platform is capable of that duty, you'll have to contact Regal and ask them.

    Bow plowing at high speed.

I had the same problem on 2 different boats. One had a hook in the hull, the other was just over-powered. The hook was at the stern, so I could not find a fix. To fix the other one I just put on a smaller motor (just under the capacity spec) and all was well. Since your hook is far forward...

Trim tab adjustment. Why can't I get my head around it?

The owner's manual tells you what to do. Just follow the directions, even if you don't understand them, and you'll be OK.

Wanting to sell boat need advice and info

If its a newer engine a dealer / mechanic can access the computer and find the hours. If its an oldie no way to tell unless you have an hour meter on the dash. Biminis are expensive. You will probably not recoup your cost for a new one if you replace it. Just leave it off but leave the...

Great time to sell a used boat.

Personally, I think now is the WORST time to sell a used boat. If you're so inclined to buy used, most of what's for sale is junk. And most of the new models are sold out. So, you get a lot for the old one, but the new one costs more. It all balances out. I like it better when you can place...

    New here and need help

Have a prop shop fix / rebuild the prop, put it back on and go fishing. The repair is usually cheaper than buying a new prop.

    Old gas

If the boat was stored covered in a dry garage, snug as a bug in a rug, just take it out and run it....it'll be fine. If it was sitting outside in a damp cold environment, you probably will have a problem. If its somewhere in between, you won't know till you try it. If the gas smells good...

    1950 Reynolds Aluminum Boat

With some exceptions, the current marketplace is for people to get out on the water right now, without having to do a lot of work. The classic / antique market has dried up considerably. You might get a couple hundred for the entire rig, but you might have to wait a while. You didn't mention...

In search for a 17 ft deck boat

The USCG will not come to rescue you unless you are in imminent danger of dying....e.g., sinking, on fire, etc. If you are simply lost or run out of gas you will need to call a private contractor....i.e. SeaTow. Take a USCGA or Power Squadron boating course. The classes will help you gain...

Boat Very Hard to Steer to the Right Under Power

If its a Mercruiser, you move the aft end of the tab toward the direction it steers easy. For a Volvo, I assume its the same, but I really don't know the position on these motors. Refer to your owner's manual.

Boat Very Hard to Steer to the Right Under Power

Read the owner's manual for the engine. There is a trim tab on the AV plate that will compensate for side prop thrust. Obviously the previous owner didn't adjust it, or it corroded and fell off.

    1957 Evinrude Fleetwin pricing?

Unless it was converted that would require a 2-hose pressure tank. Do you have a fuel tank for it? After 44 years, few of these tanks are still usable unless all of the gaskets and hoses have been replaced. They need to seal perfectly so they can hold the pressure needed to pump gas to an...
