    Engine was Mercruiser effort.----Aluminum block.----Closed cooling.----I heard that Mercury was afraid that supply of automotive blocks was at risk.

    Make sure you install a " marine " fuel pump.----Or make a parachute part of your safety kit.

    No----He left muffs on the lower unit to find the leakage.----But I do not believe there are any issues with this simple water pump and the theory of operation !

    The head needs to come off.----There is no magic to this.----Motor needs 4 new O/S pistons / rings.

    Water comes out the drain holes when motor is running on muffs.

    Damage to top of piston and the cylinder head.----Much easier to take the head off.----Motor is no good the way it is now.----So might as well take the head off.---Just 10 bolts and so easy !

    ??---Simple----Just take a look at the 72 model and see if you can attach / fit the shifting parts from the 73 model on the 72 model.----This should be simple for you !

    I have the factory tool ( X3 ) to remove the bushing,.----That big shift rod o-ring can be replaced without removing the bushing.----Yes , I Have done that just to see if it can be done.

    Look into the shift linkage swap from the 73 to the 72 block.

    What lengths do you find and what source??----And how are you measuring it ?

    Issue might be the shift linkages !----Can look at a 72 model and 73 model later today.
