Where are the rear motor mounts on a mercruiser 120?

Rear mounts are on the flywheel cover two larger bolts hold it to the transom plate. Be careful the older ones use a spring and washer under thr mount , dont loose them when you take it out. measure the hoist you are using with a boat on a trailer you have to get the engine way up t9 clear the...

    Exhaust bellows ripped

Absolutely no issue , exhaust is open at propeller hub so exhaust cavity is full of water at rest. Merc makes an exhaust tube that is connected on one end only. This was first done for bigger engines to lower back pressure but a lot of people use them because they are a heck of a lot easier to...

Reman 383 Stroker - Low compression in rear Stbd cylinder

hard to say not seeing it apart. May have been a bad rebuild. I guess had they done a compression test after install you would know. Possible you have a bad injector and cylinder is running lean? What does plug look like in that cylinder. looking at your photos you have dry exhaust which i have...

Mercruiser 6.2 cracked engine block from cold

This is the mecury marine cast 6.2 not the older GM made 6.2. these newer marine specific engines were never used in cars or truck

    Exhaust bellows ripped

Would also think these were sitting on the shelf before you got them or they got nicked installing them with the bellows expander tool. no issue using it with torn exhaust bellows as the exhaust is full of water at rest anyways.

Reman 383 Stroker - Low compression in rear Stbd cylinder

Would put compressed air into low cylinder and determine if low compression is out the valves, crankcase ,or into the cooling jacket. if you have blowby the rings into crankcase the whole engine needs to come out. If its through the valves probably just the head. would look in exhaust and see...

Heat Exchanger blocked: recommendations how to flush or unclog?

the 470 and the rest of the engines in its 3.7 L family produced from 1976 thru 1989 would have been paired with MC1, R, MR, and alpha gen one drives. All use pretty much the same water pump, probably why they were prone to overheat

does this prop seem "reasonable" for this combination?

I would think a 17 or 19 would work with that application. Quite possible a 17 works well Especially if its a fiber glass boat ( heavier than aluminum). If i recall my neighbors growing up had a 17” on their startcraft bowrider that had a 120. You could have the pitch verified by taking it to...

Bravo 3 can you change gear oil line without removing lower unit?

Check the condition of your bellows while u are in there. if your bellows are close to needing it the oil line is real easy once the bellows are out of the way.

Heat Exchanger blocked: recommendations how to flush or unclog?

On an alpha drive there is no need to split the drive and remove the impeller for winterizing . to the OP i would check the water flow to the heat exchanger when in the water. Also use OEM impellers they last much longer than the aftermarket ones. i would suspect if u have low water flow u lost...

2010 4.3L TKS Thunderbolt Ignition Troubleshooting

You will likely have trouble getting out of gear especially when docking without the interrupt switch. It makes the ignition stumble when coming out of gear to unload the back cut dog clutch engagement teeth. With water putting pressure on the prop you may find that it will hang up in gear when...

    spring vapor lock?

If you are talking about locally sourcing a carb 1406 is the edlebrock automotive carb not rated for marine use you need a 1409 which is the marine version. if you are talking about locally sourcing a carb kit yes the kit that fits the 1406 is the same for the marine carbs and is commonly on the...

Extra parts? Where do they go?

Those are exhaust flappers go in the top of the exhaust wye pipe . They do wear out but also get damaged by lack of water flow due to lack of impeller maintenance or blockage in raw water system.

Mercruiser 6.2 cracked engine block from cold

Judging by the picture it is not the older GM / chevy 6.2 but rather the newer Merc made 6.2. if that is accurate then you can only get parts through merc or a marine salvage yard used engine i would call michigan motorz go over exactly what have they likely can get you set up with new and...

Alignment question chasing the marks or slide the tool

Send it. I had the same situation on when I repowered in 2016. Could never get the makes 100% textbook but tool goes in and out easily, went up and down adjusting mounts for hours. In the years since it has never changed and I have the drive sliding on and off like butter....

    Burned boat and insurance offer

What boat model and year and approximate location? Do you have hull coverage on the boat yourself? If so I would talk to your insurance company as if you file a claim with them they will engage the other insurance company. I would start by looking up the blue book value of your boat and...

Alpha One Gen 1 Outdrive Re-Install Issue

You move the front of the engine up or down on the threaded mount on front of engine. Raise it up to get more grease on bottom side of alignment bar. #13 in the attached link is the adjustment stud https://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercury_marine_parts/sn/0B599492/%2001651337/908_180
